Alright, so I'm a long time EB player, and honestly, I have no idea why it is I chose Ernie Ball Slinkys back when I did, and why I stick with them to this day. I guess it was just some passive habit forming thing of mine... Beats me.

Anyway, I wanted to ask the following:
What do you use?
What did you use before?
Why do you like what you use?
What musical styles do you play?

Maybe a weird post, but I'm just sitting here wondering, really, WTF is the difference in strings (ya ya, I know there's SOME difference, but can it really be that much??).

Peace Y'All,
Mojo

D'Addario
Ernie Ball, DR, SIT, whatever I could get my hands on
Cheap and last a fairly long time. Sound solid without being too bright or too mellow
Metal

I am an ernie ball user myself. The colorful packaging drew me in at a young age and i have always just stuck with them out of habit

I started with daddario, changed to dean markley and now I'm happy with elixir! they ring and ring and rrrring...

I play mostly metal and hard rock type stuff. First strings I tried were EB Slinky's. They were really comfortable to play but the ones that didnt break went dead quickly. I switched to GHS Boomers and have used them since. I like the way the feel and they last a long time. I have some D'addario's I plan on trying out soon.

D'Addario... Forever... I tried Ernie Ball's shortly after I started playing because the magazines made them seem like the "cool" strings to use (I was young...), but I didn't like them. Can't remember why...

D'Addario's are consistent, last a reasonable amount of time and, if I watch for the sales, I can get them for less than $3.00/set in 10-packs. I sometimes think about trying somethng else (Elixir's?), but I'm lazy, and cheap, and I have dozens of new sets lying around, so I just grab another pack of D'Addario's when it's time to re-string something...

Elixir Nanowebs 10-46, ever since I bought my first Anderson... nice if you have a bunch of guitars, the strings dont smell funky after not playing a while, or get gunked up, seem to last a long time, no string noise, can go on and on. :)

What do you use? DR Tite Fits
What did you use before? Boomers/Blue Steel
Why do you like what you use? They have a certain feel that I don't notice in other strings...hard to describe but sort of an elasticity kind of thing. They also sound bigger to me, all other things equal, and hold their tuning well once broken in.
What musical styles do you play? Rock, Classic Metal, Blues, Funk, and lately even a bit of modern country.

I've used GHS Boomers 52-11's i think. Its the GBTNT set...I've been on a string search the past year or so...just trying different brands/guages. I always seem to come back to them...though I like other brands...I tend to come back to the boomers...to me, its the gauge/thickness of the g string that make or break a set for me. Some sets, it seems there is a big jump in tension between the E/B and G, and G and E/A/D.

Today, I am either using D'Addario (mainly 10-46) or Curt Mangan
I used to use DR's, but they felt too stiff. Used Fender, GHS, and Slinkys in the past. Slinky's lasted about a week, I know some who swear by them.
I use D'Addario because they are inexpensive and last long. Curt Mangans I find a little brighter, so I like them for my darker guitars.
I play various styles, old metal, punk, alternative, classic rock, blues, etc.

Webstrings. They're about $2.50 a pack direct from their site, last as long as only other sting I've tried and sound good. I've played D'Addaro, GHS, Ernie Ball, Dean Markley and DR. The only ones I didn't like were GHS for whatever reason.

Webstrings are great because I have so many guitars and the price is great. Also, they make them in 11-56 which can be a pain to find at the sore sometimes. I'll order about 20 sets when I'm running low.

I play mostly metal and rock.

An interesting read from webstrings website: They're basically saying that one or two companies make all strings and then they just relabel them

Who Actually Makes Strings?: For those of you who are still in the dark about who makes guitar strings, lets just say that there are only a handful of companies that actually manufacture strings. Most of today's string labels have one of these string factories manufacture strings for them and they simply put their label on them. These branded strings are then sold to a distributor and then to a store or perhaps a catalog, everyone makes money along the way (we can't fault them for this, everyone needs to make a living). Strings go through many hands before they end up on your instrument.

String Marketing: As I'm sure you know the most popular string labels spend lots and lots of money advertising. We've all seen those long lists of endorsees, great for those of us who get free strings but if your a working musician without an endorsement deal it doesn't mean much. What it does mean is that someone has to pay for all that advertising. Webstrings doesn't advertise the way the industry does, we don't give strings away free of charge to anyone and we would never pay anybody to use our strings the way many labels do.

A Better Way:Webstrings contracts the same manufacturers that the most popular labels use for their strings. That's right they're the same high quality American made strings. So you see, there's a good chance that your favorite strings are exactly what we're selling! And if not you may find that Webstrings are of better quality and so much more affordable that you'll never go back to the old stuff! Essentially, Webstrings customers get to play without having to pay. Check out what they're saying and meet our growing list of satisfied customers.
As we said earlier, the Internet has changed everything. According to the pre-Internet business model the consumer absorbed all the costs involved with success. In today's business model success can be achieved in a much more cost effective way with an emphasis on true savings passed on directly to the consumer.
We're sure you now understand how we can sell the highest quality strings at outrageously low prices and still manage to stay in business, better living through science we say !!

I use D'addario XL's 9's or 10's.
Have used EB and others....find D'addarios are slightly more stable.
Play Classic rock/metal
FWIW I have used some Thomastik Infeld's and they really sound amazing...but they are real expensive and hard to find...

Played Boomers for years, good enough for me.

Now acoustic strings, that is a tricky subject with much subjection but what brand matters way more than electric imo.

What do you use? Ernie Ball Slinkys (Elixir's on acoustic)

What did you use before? Tried just about everything

Why do you like what you use? Ernie Ball Slinkys (Elixir's on acoustic) I have been using EB strings for all my guitar playing life (25 years) I have tried lots of other strings but always come back to slinkys. It is the only thing that has not changed in my rig since the beginning.

What musical styles do you play? Mostly Metal & Rock

I am gonna check out this webstrings site. If I can get the same strings for a half the price I am climbing aboard.

What do you use? -- Strings by Aurora

What did you use before? -- D'Addario 8, 8.5, 9, 9.5

Why do you like what you use? -- Strings come in colors, or regular silver, have more clarity and punch than any other string I've ever used, and last longer per set than any other brand I've tried.

What musical styles do you play? -- Just about everything, but I focus on mainly rock, hard rock, and metal.

my faves are Blue Steels but they have been getting more and more expensive at my local GC. I am usually using D/addario's b/c they have sales on the 10 packs.
