Who makes the best sounding 2x12 (closed back) these days. I'm thinking about loading it with Creambacks.

The smaller the better.

I'm a big fan of Avatar Cabs. Great sound and build quality at a good price, and they have a good selection of speakers to choose from. I used to have a Avatar Contemporary 1x12 that was killer. I wish I still had it. The Contemporary cabs are basically a Orange cabinet. I also like the Vintage series of cabs, with the Marshall Bluesbreaker look.

I know you said you've got speakers for it already, but it's worth checking out Avatar's Hellatone speakers. They take different Celestion models and break them in for you. It's very cool! You can order a cab unloaded from them too, which might be the way to go if you're set on loading it with creambacks.

I also like the Mesa Recto 2x12 and the Orange PPC 2x12. The Recto vertical 2x12 is very cool!

Avatar makes great cabs, but I swear by splawn. Hard to beat for the money especially on the used market

Bogner makes the best cabs money can buy. They have a smaller cab I believe is called a stack cab,or something like that. But I like be my avatar too. It's been around the block and back and delivers. Great bang for the buck.

Mesa Recto 2x12's are good quality cabs at a descent price new and can be found used for an even better price.

You could get a pair of Mesa Thiele 1x12's and load them with EVM 12L speakers, This would cost more than a 2x12 but I've owned Bogner, Stone Age, Avatar, Mesa 2x12's, a bunch of shit. A pair of Thiele cabs kills anything and you can carry them both at one shot.

I'm still very happy with my Port City. I have os2x12 so it's a bit taller, but nice and light for gigging.
Mine has the m75h75 scum back mix.

I like the old Peavey 2x12 from the 80's...
But danyeo has it right. Those cabs sound great with any speaker I have tried.

Avatar Vintage. Those cabs sound every bit as good as Mesa or Marshall cabs, and they come with your choice of speakers. Good construction too.

I used to own a Avatar Vintage 2x12. It was fantastic and looked good too (almost like a Bogner cab). Best 2x12 I ever played, and I have owned and or used almost every major brand of cabs. Right now I got a 4x12 vintage cab with V30's and T-75's in a X pattern and it is an excellent sounding cab that has only gotten sweeter with age and with the speakers breaking in. The top end has mellowed over the years and it has bedcome very smooth sounding. I also have a Mesa standard 4x12 and the honestly Avatar sounds better to my ears! More balanced, smoother... the spiky frequencies that the Marshall and Mesa cabs have are not a problem with the Avatar.

2x12 AVATAR ENGLISH UK CELESTION CREAMBACK G12M65 .... bought direct from Avatar on clearance, great cab, great sound..sweet deal.

I use an Egnater back when they were USA made from the modular days. Friggin love it. The Tourmaster version is great too.

I'd love to try a Stoneage. I'm curious to hear the difference.

Played a Wizard. Great cab as well, but very pricey. I couldn't justify the cost at the time.

Wizard makes amazing cabs but he isn't building until he is done with AC/DC tour.

I like the Bogner 212CB.

I've been through a bunch.....

Mesa - 2x12 horizontal , 2x12 vertical
Bogner - cube , Shiva 1x12 , horizontal 2x12 standard size
played through a 2x12 horizontal Avatar for a few
played a Friedman 2x12 horizontal 2x at NAMM last two years

My Splawn front loaded 2x12 is the best sounding cab I've played through & owned.
