Suggested trimpot/HPF LPF setting on VFE standout

My curiosity got the better of me with this VFE Standout. I'm going to be using to drive a Splawn Modded Marshall JMP to tighten it up and into a modded 72 SL which has about JMP gain again just to tighten things up, just looking for a good baseline to start from. I read all of the old Standout threads with Psychodave where he sets the Make up gain pot low to get me started but I thought I would pose the questions as well.

Hey Dave could you give me an idea of where you ended up level wise on the Make up gain pot, I guess the other unlabeled pot on the left center of the board is the LED intensity??????.

Where do you usually run your HPF/LPF with your JMP clips? Just curious where you have ended up after tweaking the Standout for awhile now?

From what I have read the HPF/LPF cut the frequencies above and below the selected Frequencies

In the clip below I have the trim pot in the Standout set to 1/2 way. I’m using a bone stock Marshall JMP.

The other Standout that I use with high gain amp, I have the makeup gain pot set barely on. Like less than 1.  This way I can use more of the level pot.

I had some time and I set the make up gain trimpot to just on probably about 1 or so. I set the HPF and LPF and level as your settings with the Splawn preamp gain on 5-6 on first gear rhy/mode pretty much the level your JMP was at. I have to say I'm impressed at how it tightens the low end up in a CCV modern type of way, which I heard in your clips. So I am pleased with what I'm hearing, it also seems to bring more bite and aggression in addition to the low end tightening. I usually use a Maxon OD808 with this amp to tightn it some which I like as well, but it is different in kinda a more vintagey feel.

Do you find it less noisy using 18DCV versus 9DCV?

I'll give it some more time and tweaking tomorrow but I'm definitely not disappointed, it lived up to the attributes in your clips, thanks for the info.

I don’t notice any noise difference between 9-18 volts. It adds a bit of hiss when using a high level. I use 18 volts primarily.
