Debating on a pickup change in my Les Paul. Remember liking the Aldrich's a few years ago. Considering them but can't find anything (yet) online about what cap value Suhr recommends. .022 or .047? Gonna run 500k pots.

Thanks in advance RT

Not 100% sold on a set yet. Still checking around and trying to decide to go either with the PAF vibe or something more modern like BK's.

I know its not any help, but I ran mine without caps or tone controls. Its not a big difference from the pot being wide open, but its a tad better on top.... Just a tad ;) I never changed the tone controls anyway, if you use them, this dosent apply...

Good info I might be advised to use
Just got my first Les Paul - been using Strats for years
Got a Custom with the 498T/490R covered pickups
they sound great driven
the change in taper from what I'm used to is dramatic
the cap and pot are maybe to blame - anyone got cleans out of these pups?
hard to see, but I think 300K pots. the cap I'll check, but it doesn't change much when turning down
until around 7, then a slow change
finding it odd

.022 with a 500k pot

This ^^^^
I have this combination in my
Les Paul Custom with the Aldrich set.

Yeah that's how I'm gonna run it too. Now just gotta pull the trigger on the Aldrich's but I'm torn between them and the Bare Knuckle Rebel Yell's.

Should be 500k not 300.
Do you mean that is what will be in there, or what should be put in?
Can't see what they are from looking in.

I don't know what will be in there but IMO for the best tone with an LP you should have 500K pots.

Thanks. On a Custom it should be 500K with 0.02 caps, according to some forum posts.
The pot taper is mighty strange and very different to the usual strat humbucker pot.
Turning down with the 498/490s doesn't clean up even on a clean channel, which made me think it may be 300K pots. It seems not (it's a new from the store guitar).
I've thrown in a spare 57 Classic and a quick test seems to be cleaner.
Not as much of a difference on the gain settings as I'd have thought.
More testing to come.

I was considering putting Dirty Fingers in there, but they are hotter than most anything, so maybe not the best idea. Anyone like them? The Aldrich are a possibility too.

I'm a big SS fan, but having seem him live and up close recently, I think he sounded better with his older LPs, esp the black one with colored (blue or purple) pickups, whatever they were.
The BKs sound less tight IMO.

The stock pots are pretty shitty normally. 500k aren't going to clean up any better they'll just be brighter than 300k. Most likely the stock pots values will vary a bit and be quite a bit less than 500k.
You're better off ripping all that out and buying a matched set of 500k pots. I personally like 50's wiring especially if you like rolling back the volume for a cleaner tone while retaining the highs. Here's a good set.

Running 0.022uf with 500k audio taper pots all around on my Gibson LP standard le. Thinking of decreasing the value on the bridge though, as I recently change the push pull tone knobs to series/ parallel. Was running series/ split. Liked split a bit better than parallel, but prefer not having the noise. On the bridge, been running the tone at 5 on parallel and about 7 or 8 in series.
