If you prefer the 80's JCM master volume era tone, go with the Fargen

If you prefer 70's Plexi non-master volume era tone, go with the Dirty Shirley

Can't comment on the Suhr, I never tried one.

The Fargen and Friedman both have EXCELLENT master volumes (Friedman is maybe a tad better) and both do a great job hitting the tone of the era they are targeting.

The Fargen has the added bonus of the decade switch and it's more authentic to my ears.

The Friedman has the plexi character, but it's BETTER at just about everything.

I somewhat disagree with the post above about buying the Marshall first. I bought the Fargen first, then the Marshall, then the Friedman. If I could only have one, it would be the Friedman. I guess the question is, would I still be so sure that the Friedman is the amp for me, if I didn't own all three.

I eventually sold the Fargen, but I would most definitely buy another one. It was a great freaking amp. I just wanted higher wattage and so when the time came I tried the Friedman instead of getting a new Fargen. You can't go wrong with either one.

on the cheap you may want to look into a splawn QR or prostock (single channel version). its a little more versatile IMO, and its nice that the foot switch has OD1/OD2 and a switchable solo boost (dialed in on volume via pot). the features are nice and convenient, you don't need anything other than the foot switch.

i would love me a freidman though.

i also fell in love with the badger at first chord.
