Suhr Badger 30 tubes question !

Hello TGP :)

I'm having a tough time dialing in my Badger 30 for the sounds I'm after..

Basically, with this amp as I drive up the gain (i.e 8 or 9), the amp tends to sound flabby and loses definition (I'm running the Power open -> fully clockwise @ 10 & Drive at ~ 5-6 mostly through a stock Suhr 1x12 with a vet 30)

I've found a happy medium with the gain knob just under 7 and then hitting it with a Shiba Drive (or even an ibanez TS) for lead tones. Now, without the pedal I'm wanting just a tad more preamp gain and overall tightness for crunchy rythmn tones.

The amp is still fairly new (~a year or so) with stock tubes. Can I achieve a tighter sound & slighly more pre-amp gain with any particular tubes?

For the power section, I have read that you can use 6L6s or 5881s without having to worry about anything... what should I expect with the 5881s?

Any recommendations for the pre-amp section?

THanks
-vik
