I just picked up a Badger 30 and it's a sweet amp indeed. It has a bit more gain than I expected.

I also had a Budda SD45 and a 20th Shiva.

Any plans on a full review for the Badger 30?

Sorry Mo, cant comment on the Suhr, played 2 reg Shivas and they had some good tones but never bought one, would like to try a 20th. Budda is a great amp, I have said for a while now they have a way of making every guitar sound great no matter what kind of pickups, singles or hums, everybody should own one at least once IMO, they are so responsive and dynamic its really a treat to play. I also had a SD80, which I have decided when I run across another I will buy again, and still have a SD30 combo, great amps with lots of punch and sustain, I would suggest the 80, def loud as hell and volume is very touchy but thats an amp that actually has 2 great channels and sounded great thru every cab I have, thanks for speeding up my search around my area for one!

There's a huge difference. The 80 is the loudest 80 watts I've ever heard.

It is all good. I am learning this PC software recording thing. Gotta let a place to put audio files. My wife is giving me shit to put up something. Not that it would be great, just something I can bend a note almost up to the next tone

The one thing about recording practice with my old boom box from my woodworking shop, the amps don't sound that far apart. They seem to feel more different than they sound. If that makes sense.

You can use a pedal and make a Dr Z sound similar to a DSL if you try to with a pedal and some EQ. I think that also may be the wife's ever so subtle way of hinting I don't need another amp

Played the Suhr Badger 30 through a Suhr 1x12 Celestion VInage 30 loaded or was it a WGS? It cleaned up well on the volume knob. Did not care for the driven tones really just vanilla flavoring to me. The power scaling was the first time I had tried it out. Not as effective as I had been reading others were commenting on it. This was directly after trying one of David Bray's output level control that I thought stayed more true to the tone of the amp than the Suhr Badger. Thought I would play the amp through another speaker (Celestion Alnico Blue) with a different off-name branded 1x12. That did make it sound better. Still found it to be the most disappointing amp demo experience (yes, I had it cranked and everything in between) I had in the last year. Maybe it was the expectations I had going in to playing it based on reveiws, hype and whatnot?

Played the Suhr SL68 at an amp show. Did not get the chance to crank it without serious attenuation levels in the Suhr room as they would not allow it. That was before they added the MV to it. What levels I did get it to through a Kelley attenuator, it did sound good! Reminiscent of plexi tones as it was intended to be. It was $3200 last December and has seen its price increased to $4000 recently for a $800 increase! I know the price of iron and other components have gone up, but that increase is too steep IMO. That alone takes it out of the running for me.

Owned two different versions of the Bogner Shiva (original silver chassis and traffic green() both without reverb. If you are looking for a two channel amp it will get you better cleans than the Suhr Badger though again the Badger cleaned up well just not as clean or pristine cleans as the Shiva. Have not played the 20th Shiva but from what others are saying that will get you quite a bit more gain than the Badger. If you are looking to go Badger with that amount of gain you will be committed to pedal(s) to accomplish it. The overdrive qualities of the Shiva I found certainly preferable over anything the Badger could produce which is not as harmonically rich but more dialed in the Q's to the lower mids.

No experience with the Budda amp line. They did change ownership some time ago that others claimed to have change their quality.

I'll say this much about the ownership change...I owned 5 or 6 pre-Peavey Buddas and one post-Peavey Budda. The only real difference I noticed is that the Peavey Budda came in a much nicer cabinet, with a nicer footswitch. FWIW.

Would check the Goldfinger, although I did not try it long enough, quite outstanding amp which seems to make Fender and! Marshall Thing happen...

But no High Gain!

Will try it with my old Fenders and Marshall in direct comparisons soon.

The QC is the same, the preamp section went PCB and the poweramp section is still hand-wired. Used to be PTP wiring but there were "consistency" issues - I believe this - same thing Reinhold has said for years about PTP production amps. I'm liking what I read, and I'm liking what I'm hearing. It would seem these amps are definitely doing there own thing - and this is what I like.

I'll be more than likely moving on the SD45, albeit the SD18 seems like a hella fun amp to simply plug in and CRANK!! But alas, I'll stick with the smarter scaling and go from there.

I've also read sums about Goldfinger, but I need to step away from Bogner for a bit - this is why I was looking outside of my usual Bogner/Diezel lineup. Budda's got a little magic to them, they may be the cats' ass.

Will keep you posted....

At the Downtown ATL Guitar Center with the booteek gear room, they have all things Bogner. The Goldfinger has a great clean tone. You would probably love it. The tone controls and pre/post controls add flexibility (complexity). May take a few weeks to dial in say 4 good staple band tones.

The DNA or sonic footprint of the amp is great. I like it better than the Shiva. It is just a very different amp. I have the feeling that after bonding with the Goldfinger it would be a superior amp. It is one you plug in to and know this is something good, and different.

You know I have been kicking tires on a third Bogner lately. I was just sharing to a fellow gear slewt

The Goldfinger is an amp to consider spending time with. If you are not going modern metal, it may be the best kept secret in the Bogner stable. I didn't boost it or get all wild out loud with it. I may run up there near closing time and crank it for a hard run later. Just a good good amp. One of those where people come by to see what you are playing and hang for a minute. I have been digging lower gain and also a P90 or Tele lately. It takes those to the edge of breakup very well. I don't / can't play EVH or RR flash. I like and am inspired by Knopfler and Gilmour. The Goldfinger seems designed to go there.

When my Anderson gets here, I'm taking it up there and will run Goldie thru a few paces. I encourage you to do the same. It will not disappoint
