Hi Guys!

I have a Gibson Les paul with 57 classic hum. there are great pickups but i'm looking more of a high gain fat tone.

are the suhr doug aldrich a good option? other?

I used to have an Aldrich in a Les Paul and loved it. I probably wouldn't describe them as "FAT" though. Maybe others would but to me I consider them "defined" with a growl to them. When I think "FAT", I think thick with treble rolled off like a Bonamassa or Billy Gibbons tone. The Aldrich cleans up really well when you turn down the volume and is not harsh. Just has a great definition and does great high gain tones.

If by high gain fat tone you mean high gain full tone then yes. Fat to me could be perceived as flubby, rounded and not articulate. In a les Paul I am very much a fan of the Aldrich pickup. Another pickup I think is absolutely stellar in a Les Paul type guitar is the Bare Knuckle Rebel Yell. Right now that is my favorite pickup in a Les Paul type guitar. Very articulate and does everything wonderfully.

The Aldrich is killer in a Les Paul.....
Can't agree more. They split really well too. It's been my mainstay for quite a few years now.

I put a set of Aldrich in my ESP Eclipse and it sounds great. Not a LP, but similar idea.

Just warning - they are really really hot pickups. If you like that you'll be fine

I love the Aldrich (and SSH+) pickups. They have the upper mid cut that many other pickups lack...like Duncan and Motor City.

Reach out to James Peters. He makes pickups now and knows his stuff. He made me some that sound really great.

Yeah they definitely are but for the amount of gain they have I was always amazed at how great they clean up for low to mid-gain stuff.

Couldn't agree more. It's good to know it's there if you need it though
