I love the neon swirl. Add a blower switch and non-locking tremelo and I'd be nearly hooked. But at $3800 it's a tough pill to swallow.

I wouldn't pay $3900 for a new guitar unless it not only came with the Aqua Net holder but enough hair to need Aqua Net. I am far from bald but age has thinned out my hair to the point that long hair would look way too stupid on my head, even dumber than my 40 year old top hat. I have had a top hat since the lat 70's when I sat the guitar player from Mott the Hoople (Ariel Bender) wearing one

The pedals are neat, but no need for the ageing.
If this was your thang, surely a genuinely aged used ESP or JEM would hit the mark, and for way less.
I would think Suhr have done their homework, so I'll be interested to see if the limited run sell out.

50 guitars for the entire planet is not hard to sell. I love the finish: I hope they will use it again on other Suhr guitars; by far it's my favorite drip finish. But one can purchase a new Suhr drip in a different color for high $2k.


BTW, what other companies have done this already? The closest thing I can think of is aTyler Schmear.

Irrespective of the type of guitar, that just seems too pricey. Slightly OT but have anyone seen the new price for the SL68? Over the last time I checked which was sometime last year, went from $3200 to 4000. That's far more of a price increase than I feel is justified especially during the times. I know of a boutique amp builder while he would like to increase his prices that have stayed the same for over 16 years, that will not increase their prices because of the economic times. IMO Suhr makes good products, but is asking too much for some of them.

First off, why is $4K too much for a top tier, hand wired amp? I see all kinds of less labor intensive PCB amps that go for close to that and more...I don't think its out of line at all. Additionally, supply and demand will ultimately determine the price point. If John is building/selling all he wants, I'm sure he's not concerned about selling a few more to people who may come on board at a slightly lower price point.

Check out the YJM...best new Marshall I've heard in quite some time and priced very competitively for what you get.

I can see why you'd think this. Honestly, I too would agree with you on a lot of their prices. But, it always comes back to that supply and demand thing. And, the idea that if you can get away with selling it to the consumer for "X" amount of dollars, why would you bother selling it for less? You've got to understand that they are not in business to sell in the same numbers as Peavey for example....they're in a niche market. So, they go for a top dollar figure with a lot of their products. With that said, it does seem that Suhr makes the effort to offer some other more affordable alternatives with their guitars. Their Pro Series line offers the same American qaulity that you'd expect from a custom build but for less. Then he started the import brand Rasmus, with models that are based off his American-made Suhrs, but sell for $999 (except the GG signature $1,399).

Questions to consider: Anyone receive a pay raise over the last 2-3 year period? Anyone here receive a pay increase that would proportionally compensate for this increase? Or, more likely, how many have had their total compensation reduced, at least once, if not more recently to help defray costs and business expenses? It just does not seem to add up.

Bottom line, they can price them however they want. The good news is, no one has to buy them. If they felt comfortable raising the price so much, they must feel confident that they can get it...so more power to them. When speaking of the last 3-4 years, I've watched Suhr pretty closely....and while the economy has dropped in the shitter, Suhr sales on the other hand, have EXPLODED. They're one of the few companies in this economy that have been able to actually do quite well.

I would be real surprised if this price increase didn't correspond to a rise in production costs for Suhr. Costs have probably increased over several years the hand wired heads have been made. Now there is a cost adjustment. I doubt suddenly they just got greedy and are cashing in. Suhr seems to be a well run company with integrity. John Suhr may even pop in here and set the record straight.
