I had my doubts about shelling out the bucks for this thing but man is it well thought out and great sounding. You can get some fairly raw sounding drums with less processing than EZ drummer because of the choices you have. The strength however, is the tracker. I am trying to rig up a way to practice on my kit without going the E kit route. Prices are insane for the good ones. I'm going hybrid with low volume cymbals for now. I was just messing around with a pintech cheapo 30$ piezo stuck to a snare practice pad and the articulation and sound is crazy within SD3. The tracker function allows you to trigger only the hits you want or assign the type of hit you want to each velocity hit ( manually choose which hits to be off center or towards the rim of a snare roll for example). the detail is insane.. I mean you are thinking, would have been great "if" but that "if" is mostly done. The only thing missing is round robin sample hit selection when you import your own samples. Still though, you can simply map your sample to a certain velocity and layer 2-3 diff ones there as well. Just crazy, Toontrack killed it on this one. hi hats are still the give away though so for sure I would probably go with two overheads and a HH mic but I think with this thing and someone who isn't hell bent on quantizing everything, you can get some very real and awesome recordings with this thing.

Next I might try DSP trigger so I can convert Audio to Midi in real time and trigger my snare and toms.

Anyone else blown away by this thing?
