I'm going to get a block for my blue Peavey HP. I just ordered some new BK Blackhawks, so I may as well put some upgrades in at the same time.

I guess the easy choice is a Brass Block L shaped. But then if I ever wish to set the HP back to floating, perhaps I should look at the Tungsten (pricey). But then how about the big block Tungsten? Surely that will yield sonic levels of furious thick sustain

Anyone ever A/B Brass vs Tungsten? Or ever use a Tungsten Block at all?

One thing is for certain, no granite block

I have a big tungsten block. It's heavy. I've used big brass blocks too. I don't really notice ANY blocks changing the sustain. Maybe on the real high frets, but that's a maybe.

The blocks do change the tone. Brass seems to make the guitar sound warmer. The big tungsten block... makes it seem more hardtail, if that makes any sense. More immediate attack. Maybe more "snap" because of that. But not "brighter." We guitarists are strange people trying to describe this stuff.

Interesting. I like the idea of faster attack and hardtail-ish results
Which one did you get? What is the difference? There is a
Fat Tungsten Sustain Block
Pro Fat Tungsten Sustain Block

The "Pro" is a couple of bucks cheaper (?) They kind of look the same by the description

"Pro" is probably for the Floyd Pro (a low profile trem like an Ibanez Edge). Different sized block from the OFR. I think I got mine from someplace called Musicians Arsenal or something. At the time, they were the only source I could find.

I'm still on the fence with the Tungsten block. The lighter blocks resonate a bit better. That cool reverb-ish thing you get from a floating trem is almost gone with the tungsten block. In someways it's cool. Other ways not.
