Swapped the EV out of my boogie mark IVa combo for a c90...

I've always keep an EV12L loaded Mesa Thiele around simply because that speaker has such a great sound. I wish I had kept some to load in a 4x12. Years back I had two Masa half back 4x12 loaded with EV's. The sound was glorious with a Mark IVa.

I put a Mesa Vintage 30 in my Mark IV combo about twenty years ago. It is too much midrange. Not enough bottom. I think the EVM-12L was better for most things. I am thinking about putting a K-85 in it or go back to the EV.

I pretty much always use a 4x12 so have not been in a hurry to do it.

I just filled one of my home cabs with EVs now that I have a MKIII and a MKIV in the mix. Its the perfect speaker for trimming up high and low end extension for amps that are less heavily filtered than modern high gainers.

The cab is an anchor now of course. The speakers in it before were Lil Texas neos so now the cab weighs like 125 pounds.

Never liked the C90 in my Mark IV either. Blanket over tone city. I wish I would have tried a few different speakers in it before I got rid of it.

and then swapped them back, literally 15 minutes later.

Wow, the difference is huge. in the combo, the c90 sounds like a muffed, blurry mess in comparison.

that is all. :geek:
How loud do you generally run the mark IV? I generally feel that the EV takes some volume before it wakes up. To me the C90 is better at very quiet volumes, like less than 80dBA.

You mean the EV attenuates the extreme highs/lows when paired with vintage amps? I thought EV's had a wider bandwidth than most other guitar speakers?

I’ve had all EV, all MS12 and the C90/EV. To me the EV/C90 was by far the best and it wasn’t close. Mesa knew what they were doing with that combo; at least with the Mark 2Bs/C+s I’ve owned.
