older ones originally had to be imported to the USA.

of course being available to the USA - there will be a dealer markup plus shipping charges to get them to dealers. but the ease of ordering one just like any other instrument off the internet is cool and most likely the markup you are paying for. used to be you had to know how to operate kunji-english translation/shipping/currency companies.

Mistersprinkle or what ever his name is on Ebay has new J-Customs for $2100 shipped to your door. You need to know nobody to grab one.

Damn, I'm looking to buy a used one. Guess I'm too late, everyone is going to be marking them up now.

What is up with the new Ibanez Premiums? I saw an ad in the new Guitar World for them.

Photoflame tops and not built in Japan. I would go 3120 used before those.

Guess prices have gone up the past year, meestursparkle is selling new models for $2600 now

Always wanted one but not for these prices.

before the ebay dude importing them you had to use methods i mentioned to import them. there are japanese/chinese companies that trade $ to yen and also provide shipping services. you had to know who to trust - Tom/code001 knows the lowdown because i was on the verge of doing it myself.

in this manner it works for anything over there really - pedals, guitars, etc. not so much just one person. and the pricing was well worth it back when the dollar had a good value.

Why get a J-custom when you could get a complete 100% custom for cheaper than that from Gutierrez and others? I just do not see the logic unless you really, really want that Ibanez J-Custom tag on the headstock. :dunno:

J-Custom will sound different.

no doubt that J-Customs are fantastic guitars and i can see why they've got that price tag. Wait until Australian prices are announced, you'll shit bricks

$3499 is MAP, but you can buy under that from Rich Harris (Ibanez Rules), and get one hand picked with a warranty.

any ibanez dealer has to advertise them at that price most likely

Correct, advertised prices have to be no less than MAP, but ultimately dealers can sell for whatever they want.

yep we certainly can sell things for whatever we want!

Yeah, as soon as I posted that I realized that I forgot that aspect as well. That and as far as I know, J-Customs are the only "factory" available guitars with the rounded fret-ends which supposedly feel amazing, but I do not know personally.

Yes I know Code, as does every guitar from the next. Do not get all TGP on me sir!! ;)

J-Custom fret ends do feel magical. It's not talked about as much for some reason, but the back of the necks feel amazing as well.

I know Gutierrez is working on a bolt-on design, but has he released it yet? All the guitars I've seen are neck-thru, which has a distinct sound compared to bolt-ons. Then you have the OFR vs Edge Zero, sourcing of wood, fret material and all kinds of other TGP goodness. :D
