Tae away the singer, which band would you listen to?

If you had to take the singer away from any band, who ever you want, and then just listen to the band with the instruments only, who would you choose? Lets make it your top 3. A lot of bands, the singer makes them, a good singer can elevate an average band. So, what band just rocks even with no singer?

I would take
1. Led Zep - wide variety of tones and tunes, many to me are amazing.
2. Smashing Pumpkins - only the first 2 albums, but man, those first 2 albums rock, and the production on Siamese Dream is brilliant, and thick, a massive wall of sound.
3. tie for third place, pre Hagar VH, and Master of Puppets

Pretty much the same as I listen to currently for me as most of the bands I listen to are for the instrumentation and not the vocals anyway. If you had asked which band would I begin to listen to without a singer that I don't listen to now, way different answer.

Cool thread.

Arch Enemy for me. FANTASTIC guitars. Bad singing.

DREAM THEATER!!!!

When I saw this thread ^^^this^^^ was my 1st gut reaction. And it's funny... cuz Labries solo stuff has some really good moments.. maybe it's the screamo drummer that helps(tho I hate that shit)... but I dig Sfogli and for some reason Labrie sounds like a man on his later solo stuff. You put Jorn Lande in DT and it's a whole new ballgame(but same theatrics)... maybe.... what do I know... Dream Theater has done pretty damn well.. I do maintenance for a living...lol.

and in all honesty and respect... I LOVE Myles Kennedy as a person, artist and singer... but outside of Blackbird and a few other tunes... I feel Alter Bridge needs a more chest driven singer... Myles fits the Slash band like a T... I still believe Alter Bridge hasn't captured what they are capable of sound wise... just my opinion. Again, Im just a maintenance technician... been a musician/giggin for 20+yrs... I have no money and some worn out picks to prove it. :) Cheers

Anything Ozzy. I would even give his newer stuff a chance. That's how nice I am.

;)

Dream Theater came immediately to my mind as well.

VH!!!

Anything Wes Borland. He could actually be cool in a good modern metal band without Fred Turdst.

For those who want Dream Theater without vocals, check out Liquid Tension Experiment.

A7X
Rush
Dream Theater
Silversun Pickups
Coheed and Cambria

Dream Theater instantly came to mind. Van Halen instrumentals would be cool too, never dug either Roth or Hagar. ISIS had some cool riffs but their singer always annoyed me. Lastly, although he's mostly instrumental, Joe Satriani should stay that way. Any song he sings on I cringe, like Big Bad Moon. Stick to tearing it up and writing cool stuff on guitar Satch, for everyone's sake! Lol

DT came to mind first. So I'll say Eric Johnson. GnR close second, I just never liked Axel's voice.

There are SO many. Several for metal-rock, years back I liked Cohed and Cambria until singer was annoying more and more on each new album. Nevermore singer should be exiled from the music scene, saw post other day and realized why I stopped listening years ago. SO many for rock from GunsNRoses to post Bon Scott ACDC. Brain Johnson has held me back from enjoying the thunderous rock guitars since day 1. yes I HATE that screeching use of the throat kind of rock singer, annoys me.

I've thought of this before. Lamb of God. I'll just leave it at that.

heh--Dream Theater and Lamb of God came to mind immediately for me.

Periphery actually released a version of one of their early records that had the vocals stripped off.

i'd add Dave Matthews Band. his band is all badass musicians; i'd love to hear them just go off at soundcheck while he's off smoking a bowl.

and yes, agree that Satch and Steve Vai too should never sing in public again.
