It really isn't relative though. The musicality is nil compared to Elvis. In addition, the standards of decency have sunk far, far lower than those two videos combined.

The difference is that today, the Rock World doesn't flaunt it the same way. Many of today's rockers are pretty squeaky clean with the exception of the occasional substance abuse. At least Eric Gales acknowledges it's wrong. I'm not trying to stand on a pedestal. This garbage glorifies the behavior and I see it spill over onto the kids everyday I walk into the classroom. The kids don't want to learn guitar, bass, drums, or the keys. They want to slap some stupid rhymes together and live in palaces. It's a fucking shame.

You can't say that dropping a beat or rhyme is musicality. Well, you can, but a whole generation will disagree with you. Standards of decency are always degrading in the eyes of the older generation - whether it's 2012 or 1500 - all the same rhetoric.

ha! hilarious. it's blatantly obvious that song and video are tongue-in-cheek. She has a sense of humor at least. I also really like how they shot it so each scene resembles a still photo shoot. Kinda cool.

I listen to metal and hard rock. But I like a lot of rap, r&B, hip-hop and dance tunes out there. She's got talent, no doubt. Is it the best thing out there? Maybe not. But it definitely a change of pace. Honestly, I like the "stop taking shit so seriously" way pop music has gone lately. It's refreshing to just not give a shit about it. It's a good tune in my book.

I think she's hilarious like I think LMFAO is hilarious.

I dig all kinds of music and think there is good and bad in everything. IMO this is just bad but thats just my view. I dig some Kanye, Pink, Gaga and Tupac and several others when the talent is there, I am just not getting this at all but more power to her for selling it I guess.

Previous generations are always dissatisfied with the next generation's music. The difference is that this is not music. The quality of popular american music has always been stellar from Sinatra, to Elvis, to Buddy Holly, to Hendrix, to Van Halen, to Dave Matthews (even though I don't care for him). The only things that changed were the genres and eccentricities. Saying the musicality isn't the same, pertaining to the drivel above, is a gross understatement. It's practically nonexistent. The older generations didn't like Elvis' hips or how Jimi humped his Strat, but the indisputable fact is that they played music. No one can argue that with any substance. Music must contain rhythm, melody, and harmony, and many of today's east coast/west coast radio "artists" are devoid of 2 of 3. It's needless to state which ones are most neglected because it's that obvious. If it was musical in any way, shape or form, we would all be saying, "Well she's a venereal-diseased whore, but at least it's musical", but nobody here is saying that.

Well we'll agree to disagree. My elders saw no musical talent in "rock 'n' roll". I would venture to guess that most growing up with "Big Band Music" saw no musical value in Jimi's screeching guitar, or any distorted amp for that matter. To say that there is no rhythm or melody in the op's vid, well I would disagree. It's not ground breaking, and I don't like it, but I can understand why others would.
