I got offered a Rocktron Banshee talk box in a CL trade. Are these any good? Is anyone else using or have any experience with using one? What other brands are out there and how do they compare to the Banshee? I can eye up the value for the trade, but it's the experience I will have with the toy that I want to gauge. Any opinions?

I've got one, haven't used it in a long time though
They're pretty much the modern standard. Really easy to "use", really hard to master
If you think you're gonna talk "robot" instantly, think again ;)

they're a pain in the ass! all of them!!

but really fun once you figure out how to bypass the "pain in the ass" setting....

Easiest thing to use...I've been using the Banshee for almost 10 years now. See the video in my sig...I prefer it to the Heil talkbox because you don't need a separate amp to run it...it has it's own 5 watt amp built into the box.

Yep
It's an amp in itself. You don't need to be plugged into anything else to make it work.

Hmmmm... Interesting. Would I be able to power it with my PP2+? Being an amplifier, would my power supply feed it, or would I have to power is separately? And, if I have to use the wall wart, would it fit into the cavity provided from a Pedaltrain for a properly mounted PP2+?

The wall wart is too big to fit into the pp2+ ac slot. I use a power strip on my board for it and a couple other things along with the pp2+.

I've been using on for more than 10 years also, very easy to use and have had no issues with durability.

The new MXR talk box looks pretty cool. Contains it's own amp and speaker driver. I was never aware that the others were such a pain in the ass until I read about the MXR.

I think I am going to do the deal and get the Banshee. Hopefully it all works out.

I did see the MXR the other day in GC. I didn't look into it. How does the MXR compare to the Banshee? I've always liked MXR products, so if I like the Banshee, I might look at others. Is the MXR any good?

The mxr is probably more or less the same thing as the banshee. They seem to be making a big deal of it in some videos I've seen like MXR came up with this incredible invention when Rocktron has had this for years on end.

Well, yeah. If not, it's a 5 min. walk to the hardware store on the corner. I'm not about to handle someone else's used tube.

Yeah, better keep handling your own tube :D

Long time Rocktron Banshee user myself. If you can score one for around $100 used, it's a good deal. You'll have to replace the plastic tube which you can get from the hardware store or get the Rocktron one which is all black. I like the fact that the Banshee has a built in 5 watt amp, EV horn, and doesn't need a seperate amp to power it like the Heil Talk Box. The AC adaptor is rather bulky, but I run a power strip on my pedalboard to power my floor processor, Fryette Valvulator I tube buffer/power supply, and the Banshee.

I've had mine for three yrs and it does the trick very well......You can use it as a 5watt amp as well in a pinch. Built like a tank....I play in a cover bar band and it has been stepped on, kicked (by me) and abused pretty good and it works perfectly.......I see then on CL $75-$100.....
