For awhile that was his weak point. I've been a PRS player since 1988. I can say that his silver sky pickups in the USA model are some of the best single coils I've ever played bar-none. And part of the secret he learned to unlock what he was missing when he made those pickups, has been supposedly applied to all his USA pickups today. haven't tried any of those new humbuckers, but I've heard many good reports. Having said that, pickups are so subjective and personal. I think you can do far worse than his current humbuckers. Can you do better? Likely so. for a price. Again, pickups are a personal thing. And I say that because while they have their intrinsic traits, they are also amplifying the particular traits of a given player. Touch, attack, etc. Then again, any rotten pickup is just going to sound....rotten. lol. Who would have thought the lipstick pickup would have such a following?
