Though this might not directly address your question, I was surprisingly recommended not to pursue buying a 2290 (I wanted one as a studio piece too) primarily due to part sourcing issues if it were to break. TC is also pretty up front with no longer providing support for the 2290 nor did I get the impression that many individuals were able to repair them either. So pretty much if it breaks--you've just gained a nice paperweight. This isn't to denote its reliability or anything as I own several older TC rack units which have been completely solid thus far.

With that said...Have you considered checking out the Korg DL8000r or TC Electronic D-Two? I own both units which I find absolutely fantastic as replacements. Both are still supported for repair by their respective companies too. They've both curtailed any gas I had for the 2290. Guys on the HRI forum seem to hold the Korg DL8000r as the "second coming" of the 2290 as well as hold the D-Two in pretty good regards. I would put the D-Two as able to hit 90-95% of what the 2290 can do (minus some functionality) while the DL8000r is able to hit 99% if not a lot more. If you haven't, check out the present library for the DL8000r user "italoop" made here: "http://www.italodeangelis.com/it/home/". Its pretty impressive.

He's also got a present library for the Eventide Eclipse which apparently is supposed to be eq'd/based on the 2290 that might be worth a look.

I picked up a used 2290 a few months back. I also have an SDE-3000 and a Timeline. I prefer the Timeline for cleans/bluesy stuff and the others for high gain. I assume the SDE-3000 is redundant now but I've barely even scratched the surface of the 2290's capabilities, learning curve is at the very least, time consuming.

I know I'm playing with fire but I just had to see what all the hype was about and thus far, it's been worth it. Mind you I don't gig or record, just rock out in my basement as a hobby.

Just get an Eclipse and be done with it. I wouldn't buy a 2290 at this point. Great units, but not worth the potential loss. There's plenty of other amazing units available with full support. Nobody in an audience is ever going to hear the difference between you running a 2290 or an Eclipse, etc.

I was just looking for one. But, decided to go with the new TC D2. The 2290 is sexy though and such a great unit. Will report back on the D2 in a couple weeks.

i briefly had a 2290 but encountered some memory issues with it and returned it.

i then picked up a korg dl8000r and for me it sonically does the job of the 2290 and actually has more delay taps and filtering control and true stereo inputs. it does not have the 2290 switchable loops and the 2290 has a big warm fatness that is hard to describe.

I already have a H3000 and Korg SDD 2000 in my guitar rack

I was looking to get a classic rack reverb and delay for recording; mostly for synths, drums, maybe guitar
Probably will get a Lexicon PCM, might also get another SDD 2000, good quality/price ratio

I love the thing in the studio. That is where you can REALLY experience the fidelity of the unit. Nothing else really like it.

I have 3. I don't haul them around anymore, but there is really nothing like a 2290. I would never be without one.

The 2290 is an awesome piece of gear, BUT if something breaks you'll have a problem. I would look into Lexicon PCM 80/81, TC D-Two or Korg DL8000R instead.

the sde 3000 is great but i prefer the sound of the 2290 and dl8000r

btw the 8000 is unbalanced 1/4" stereo ins/outs so not as cool as xlr/trs balanced but still sounds killer.

The 2290 paired with the 1210 or an H 7000 series is absolutely heaven! I love my 2290 and will buy a spare for backup.I've had my 62 second fully loaded 2290 for years and no issues.It gets a lot of compliments in the studio and live.

Wise decision IMO. A '63 Vette is a sexy unit too, but I wouldn't want one as my daily driver. The 2290, although a great unit, is essentially lost on anyone other than those who are in the room at the time it's being used.

Point taken, but I'm guessing there's not much original about that ride (which is an awesome resto-mod btw...I'm a long time Vette fanatic)...good luck finding somebody to "pimp your 2290"

Honestly, why I have 3 - if one goes down I have parts for the other 2.

For me nothing sounds like a 2290. I grew up using them. So, just a sound I love. Sort of like a tape echo - probably not worth the hassle for most, but for some nothing else will do.
