I don't know much about these amps. I heard they are marshallish with some fizz. Is this true?

I've only played the Avenger, which i am told is based off one of the SLO's channels.
It sounds incredible!

Iv'e tried a few SLO's, i never liked them. They had to be CRANKED to get the goods and when i say cranked, i mean the fucker was loud. But everyone likes to use the term sizzle when describing the SLO.

I think if you really wanted an SLO, get an Avenger. I see them go used for around $1000. SLO's normally go for $2000 used. So that's an extra $1000 for a clean channel....no thanks. According to Soldano the Avenger is the same amp as the SLO without the clean channel.

umm someone?

Peavey 5150 II if you want to waste an extra $2500.

  And if you want an amp that sounds nothing like an SLO.

+1 Iv'e played 5150's and SLO's and they sound nothing alike. I really don't like either of them though.

The SLO shares characteristics with hotrodded Marshalls, or boosted marshalls, but has its own thing going on as well. They are extremelely articulate with great string definition, have a very balanced tone that work as good or better than anything in a band situation IMO. They just sit good in the mix with little or no tweaking. They are more refined and harmonically rich than a Marshall, but not so much that they sound too "nice" like a Bogner XTC. They seem to have the perfect balance between sweetness and attitude..They can be dialled to be simply viscious but despite popular belief, they are very very versatile and . Amazing the ground they can cover with varied combos of pre and master volume combos.. They can be dialled in with lots of sizzle, but also cane be dialled in dark and squishy. I have been round the block with most of the high end high gainers and I always return to the SLO. oh yeah, and they do not sound anything like a 5150. The only similariaty is they both have tons of gain..

the FX loop does suck tone..

<----on the hunt for a used Avenger. If someone is selling one PM me please.

If you don't wanna spend that kinda money look for a Yamaha T100, it's indentical to the SLO. The guy who built the Yamaha either sold his schematics or works with Soldano now (not sure). The two amps are just about identical.

You obviously don't know that history.

Carry on...

Obviously you dont know shit about what I know Jr. I know that history "claims" that the 5150 is "SUPPOSED" to be based off the SLO and maybe it was but IF it was it missed the mark big time. Degenero put it well.

So I still stand by what I said having had both amps in the same room at the same time... 5150's still sound nothing like an SLO so yes carry on living in your dream world.

Soldano designed the Yamadano.

And didn't the Recto "borrow" some ideas from the SLO, and we all know how similiar those 2 amps sound.

Lesser parts though and the parts tollorances are not as exacting as the SLO and yeah Mike Designed that amp.

Heard both good things and horror stories regarding the T100

I've heard comments about the T100 ranging from complete opposite sides of the spectrum. All the way from very close to nothing like the SLO at all

By "identical" I assume you mean " not similar in any way". Yes, Mike Soldano designed the Yamaha T100, but that's where the similarity ends. I have owned both and liked neither, but the SLO is a higher gain rock amp and the T100 was not so much.

You can often find a T100 for a couple hundred bucks at a pawn shop if you keep an eye out for them. There's nothing special about the T100 IMO, the SLO100 sounds good when some people play it but not when I play it. I also agree with the "sizzle" and "must be stupid loud" comments, both of which are negatives to me.
