Tell me about the Laney GH50L head.........

I've had my GH50L for about two months now. It's like a higher gain 800. It has an additional gain stage that can be engaged that pushes the preamp into more modern territory. I keep the gain lower and boost it with a Dano Timmy clone. It can keep up with a 5150 in a band context, but it is not as thick sounding and lacks the low mids that 5150 has. It would actually compliment the 5150 in a dual guitarist setup really well. The amp is also stupid loud, like the 5150. No need to even put the master past 5.
It's a great budget high gain tube head, with a fantastic effects loop. EL34/6L6 bias switch too.
I'm still tweaking mine, but I have no complaints about it's performance or gain. The amp could be a little fatter/warmer sounding, but I still have to try 6L6's in it.
I wouldn't trade a 5150 for it, but I also wouldn't pass up the chance to buy one for $400. So far mine has been a real Marshall eater.

Its not super high gain like youre used to. deffiantely no where near the gain of a 5150. But Ive had some cheap laney gas for awhile now. Theyre not bad at all. More of a rock amp but with a boost could easily do 80s grind metal. and if both amp are in the same condition, the deal works money wise.

I didnt think so either.
Just dont hear too much about the Laneys...
Didn't Tommy Iommi play one? His Sig amp?

Yes TONY Iommi is still using them...

had the chance to play one through two laney red H|H speaker cabinets at full volume.

its a single channel amplifier, but good god does that amplifier sound great. im a huge paul gilbert fan and even though its a iommi signature model, laney's character is still 100% there and reminded me of the days paul used laney's. i had no problem going from a 5150 to that amplifier for an entire band practice with no effects and pulling off ozzy and heavier tones without a boost like it was nothing. the cleans when you roll back your volume have this very sweet type of character to it - one of the best cleans i have ever heard. better than fender, marshall, and very close second to the egnater renegade's cleans.

if you ever get the chance to play one do so. very underrated amplifier

Loud, dry, and mean :D Plus, they are built like tanks (and the same weight   )

Paul Gilbert used the 100 watt version for years before going to Marshall.

I just bought one this morning, wont be getting it until next week though.

I hear there is pretty much no distro in the states, and absolutley no advertising. thats why they dont seem to be as common over there. only heard good reviews about them though

I just bought a used Laney gh 50l. This is my first tube amp! But, It's lacking power? Anybody know which tubes I need to do a full replacement? I was told to replace all at once instead of just switching in New power tubes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
