I saw a band yesterday and to my suprise the guitar player was using one of these heads sitting on a line6 4x12. I say 'to my suprise' because his tone was actually pretty damn good

The angry toaster! I remember them being well liked back when they first came out. A few pro's toured with them for a while.

I haven't heard anyone bring this head up in years and this will be twice over the past couple days.

looks like a shiny high gain paperweight to me, not into digital
but that dude from Evanescence did a demo of it

Actually the HD147 and the bigger brother Vetta II gets some great tones if you pay attention to the speaker simulations.

I got mine to use as a recording tool when recording late at night. I was duly impressed with its ability to sound "tube" like.

The hardest thing is remembering that some of the cab/speaker simulations aren't that great for the particular amp model.

I saw the Evanescence guys with their post-Amy Lee band (We Are the Fallen) a couple years ago. Ben still had the HD147 and LeCompt was using a SpiderValve. Not too bad tone-wise but I think they ran straight into the board and not traditional mic'd cabs; sounded a bit sterile but could have been the mix.

I read a lot of reliability issues with the HD147 but they sound good.

I have owned 2 HD147's awhile back. If you spend enough time tweaking, you can get some decent tones. But I had reliability issues with both.
