Are they a good hard rock amp? Can you name any hard rock, 80s metal that was recorded with them? I'm not into "NU Metal at all".

Whitesnake - 1987 and Blue Murder's first album were both recorded with the Boogie MKIII! My alltime favorite tone!

Mark III's are among my favorite amps. Great for hard rock and metal.

Some of the guys who used them

Sykes with Whitesnake
Stryper
Brad Gillis with Sabbath and Night Ranger.
Jeff Watson
Vernon Reid
The guy is Fish
And many more that i can't think of right now.

You can get some bitchin' Ride the Lightning (Metallica) sounds with it

I think I saw that Steve Lukather was using either a MarkIIc
or a Mark III and slaving it into his Bradshaw rack.....this all
had to happen before he started using Soldano's and later on
Bradshaw's Custom Audio preamp......

I'm getting a great crunch tone from the R2 channel on my III. I like this tone better than the crunch tones i was getting from a JVM i owned. I did install the R2 master volume mod which works great.

I love Mark III's, only played them a handful of times but they are always sweet.. Code001's got some realllly nice clips of a Mark III check em out here; https://www.soundclick.com/code001

:inlove: Not all those clips are Mark III, though. If you wanna hear how the Mark III does metal, check out my songs "Showdown" and "Writhe in Pain." Writhe in Pain is a song from a video game, but it has a more 80s feel to it than Showdown does. All of them were recorded at bedroom tv volumes. As far as the Marshall comment, with EL34s, the amp set to Class A, and running it in R2 with a boost, you can kinda get a Marshall-esque tone. However, if you want a Marshall tone, you're better off getting a Marshall.

I think I want a Marshallesque tone, but the only Marshall that I've ever enjoyed playing through was my Jubilee  . I want something darker, and thicker, but kinda marshally (if that makes any sence).

What about an Engl Blackmore, have you considered one of those?

A mark III will sound like a mesa....

What did the mod do to the master volume?

It adds a volume control to the R2 Channel.. without it, R2 is much quieter than the other channels

I had no idea that the first Blue Murder disk was recorded with a
MarkIII....If you don't have this disk,go get it- It has a HUGE guitar
sound that I could've sworn were Marshalls....

Killer clips man. What did you record Holy Orders with? And if I may make a request, you should bust out with Suck a Sage or Midnight Carnival. :D

How is the effects loop and reverb (those that have it) on the markIII?

Effects loop is wonderful, but the reverb is fairly weak.

I really dislike my Holy Orders clip because it's so haggard and full of mistakes. It was done with the Mark III, though.

sounds like a laboga could fit?

I like mine quite a bit. Especially after getting some new power tubes for it.

You should look for a version with the graphic EQ, cause it's midrangey amp, and that's really the only way to dial out the honk...

These amps sustain like crazy though, which makes them great for leads. With the graphic in a V shape you can dial in the old 80's metal tones very easily. Seems built for those type of sounds. It can get sorta marshally sounding, probably more so than any other Mesa out there IMO.
