Tell me about the Mesa Mark IV

I think there’s too many out there already and they don’t have the demand like the aura and used market value the 2C+ generated. The only reason I’m even slightly interested in the recto reissue is for the chrome chassis aesthetic, which is hard to find on the used market.

the mark IV was made from 1990 to 2008. Tons of them out there already, really no need to reissue that IMO either. Their best days are long in their past, and everyone knows it. they still make great amps. i like what they put out, but they already changed the game, i don't really see them doing it again. especially with Randall out of the picture. he seemed to be an out of the box thinker when it came to his designs.
 
I've owned an "A', "B" and currently own a "transitional A/B"
all 3 sounded very similar to me with minor nuances, but my current A/B has a much gainier R2 than the A or the B I had previously.
It's currently with Mike B getting a once over.
I also previously owned a Red Stripe III and I much prefer the IV to it as a gigging amp.
 
I was just thinking that, when I started paying attention to tone, gear and what others were doing around mid 00s, most people mentioned the mkIV as the amp to get. No one seemed to give a shite about older boogies and the stronger reference seemed to be the Mk1 for lower gain Santana nostalgia. Not 2c+..

A rented backline mkIV was the first real good amp I ever played in the beginning of my gigging career and it's an interesting coincidence how the mkIV I just came back to after having owned everything from 2c+ up to V through the last 20 years, is one from a backline rental company clearing out..

Ya, but there's TONS of recto's out there and they are still reissuing it. Might be something they do in the future??
 
I'd be interested in a JP-IV, but I feel like they would hardwire options I wouldn't want hardwired like the JP-2C.
 
I wouldn’t bet against a full set of reissues over the coming years. 2c++, every stripe of Mark III, Mark IV As and Bs, every revision of rectifier in black/chrome and regular finishes….the list goes on. Release one or two a year and then it’s on to the aged versions which are aged and “tuned” to look/sound/feel like a named artist’s. Yours for £20k+ (dinner with named artist included).

I’m looking forward to the marketing blurb for the “artist’s choice” editions:

Shure should release a signature 58 that no matter what you sing into it, it comes out like you’re yarling.

right, but tons of variations of it. it'll probably be a specific reissue. personally i love the tremoverb the best out of all the rectos. very balanced, lots of "kerrang", amazing cleans, tube trem/rev, they're not in the stratosphere price wise, and the vactrols are dicey in those, but a healthy one sounds amazing.
the multi watt is super under rated, but a lot of people pass that one up.
 
I'm going to guess this will be the last reissue.

These choices are made like all others... ?
