I have a deal pending for one locally. My experience with the xtc is limited to the 20th version. That amp sounded amazing but was a bit compressed and dark.

What's the deal w the 100b?
There's a pretty big price jump over the 101b, is it worth it?

I want one.

More open. More kerrang. Grittier. Less compressed. All the things you were kinda already thinking. I've been frothing for all Bogners as of late, ya, the 100b are expensive. So be it - peeps will go the distance for their tone-in-head tools

That's a good description Ventura. I've owned one for about 10 years, lots of other high end amps have come and gone and my 100B is the last one I still have (as well as an AxeII). More Marshall Kerrang and aggressive than the 101b and 20th, more open, still has the Bogner darkness, has a built in Variac. Red channel is just fantastic, not to say the Blue isn't great, the Green ch is dead clean with only a little breakup if you crank one of the two volumes (green channel has two volume settings). They were really sort after until the 20th came out, which was supposed to be an updated reissue so to speak. I have tried the 20th and much prefer the 100B. Check out some of Steve Vais' tones on "Alien Love Secrets", that was his 100B era. I think they are worth the money, I think there were only 150 made. It is a mighty amp indeed.

A 100b was on my bucket list and was finally able to get one this year. Well worth the wait. Love the Green clean and the Red mean. It plays well with others (Soldanos) and it ain't going anywhere till I kick the bucket…
BTW to clairify according to the Bogner website only 100 were ever made.

I'm buying one.

Just putting it out there, I'm buying one

Thanks guys!

Is the master volume as good as it is on the current bogners, shiva, uber,,,?
Any known issues that arise with these models? Channel popping, stuff like that?

Anyone know what that "heat dispersion?" Device is?

The master volume is good, it's a little touchy just off zero but you can jam at home no problem. I have had some channel popping issues but it's a simple fix of switching the foot switch a few times whilst on "standby" (can't remember the last time I needed to do this). My guess is that the heat diffusioner is related to the variac? No issues with mine other than re tubing, it's been a solid/ reliable amp.

So if the other XTCs are better why do Bogner continue tobuild the 101b ?

Different strokes for different folks,................. ;)

What is better to one person, may be a negative to another person.

I have a couple of diehard Bogner fanboi buddies.

One of 'em doesn't want to hear anything about anything other than 101B... He has 2 of em, running in stereo through 2 Bogner 212C cabinets. To him? It's heaven. And he's had this rig for 4 years (maybe 5) and constantly tells me to just cut the chase and do it - get the exact same set up and I'll never look back.

My other buddy, can't stand the 101B or 20thX. For him? ALL about the Classic _or_ the 100B. He has one of each. No compression, more open, has teeth, more in yer face, yada yada yada... Tells me to sell my shit and just get a 100B and my tone-chase will be over.

Then there's me, along with a couple other cats, 20thX owners, I'm EL34, the other two cats, 6L6 guys. THEY tell me it's better on the 6L6 side of things and for me to just sell my amp and go with the way the "20th was originally designed"...yada yada.

Needless to say, I am very f*ckin happy with MY amp and MY amp is a 20thA with EL34 tubes goddamnit

But that ain't stopping me from scoring a minty 100B

So in short, different strokes for different folks, and everyone is pretty entrenched with THEIR opinion. These opinions are what keep the amps in production.

I believe the heat sink is for the attenuator. In theory you can just unplug the speaker
and it has the built in attenuator. (I'm too chicken to do this :))

I forgot about the "Power Amp Mute" switch. Could be for that.

I've owned both the 100b and the 101b
The 100b is a killer amp - probably the best amp I will have ever owned - I think they are amazing

I love mine, although it might be hitting the classified section soon :)
