Vai is amazing. Not sure his leads qualify for what most would consider "iconic" and best of all time status, but he is flat out jaw dropping when he rips!

I think this Gilmour solo should be mentioned among the greats. Yes, Comfortably Numb gets mentioned a lot and I agree, but this one is just pure emotion and up there with anything he's ever played:

What is the purpose of this thread?

Ah, forget it. Let's just jump ahead to the inevitable punchline.....

You just fucking nailed perfectly what I was thinking and wanted to post in another of his threads   I so just wanted to say cut to the chase and post another vid of your damn Friedman already. Even if the thread is about pedals

I wouldn't be surprised if Steve Vai calls out his own name when he achieves orgasm. The dude's a badass, but he's so fucking into himself and lays the dramatics on so thick when he's playing...

I think Gilmore is epic and this is a good solo but not movement of earth quality.

Take a nice drive and listen to the studio cut. You may feel differently.

The thread is still young - give him time.

All kidding aside...... To classify any guitar riff, any song, any band as top 5,10,100??... Is just silly.
