Ok anyone know the facts on how this was recorded? Not made up here-say.
Amps? Mics? How many gtr tracks? Cabinets?

Hands down this is a sonic brutal masterpiece. I know Andy sneap was the man. I love testament but none of there other recordings touch this yet I'm loving the new dark roots sound still not as dark n heavy as the gathering.

Answers plz

Low and the gathering are sick pieces of work, not just the production.... James Murphy was a great addition for them at the time.

Yes def. low was next on Fav. The recording n riff age are stellar.

I recall reading somewhere on the Andy Sneap forum that they used boosted 2 ch dual recto rackmounts running through Mesa Recto 4x12's miced with Shure SM57's...but that's all I remember.

I've read a few times (interviews) that Peterson used a 2 channel rec (triple I think) for many years in the early and mid 90's. I could never get those to work for me but their tone in that period is my favorite from them. The Gathering and Demonic are my favorite.

Funny so many Mesa bashers on here but yet so many of the best metal used the recto in recording. As daylight dies is another one used Mesa. Two of my Fav recordings. He's using the evh3 now but it isn't as heavy thick as the recto.

The whole recto thing confounds me sometimes. My favorite Napalm Death album, Enemy of the Music Business, they were using recto's too and I just shake my head on it. I will say I really dig my Stiletto.

Re: TESTAMENT Guitar sound and others
It's a triple rectifier, boogie cab, beta 57 slightly off centre, Dean gtr with seymours (If I remember correctly) and Eric ofcourse, tracked 4 times, eq slightly through a couple of older neve strips.

From Andy sneap I found on net.

Massive sounding albums....

Yeah, my Triple with EMGs pretty much sounds like Low...

Love The Gathering. Easily my favorite album from these guys. Love Down For Life and Sewn Shut Eyes.

Love the riffing and drums at :33

So how did it get that thick? The low end is just fawkin punishing !

I love my Stiletto too, my Tremoverb no so much anymore. I thinking about a EVH III 50 watter. The Tremoverb might need a new home.
