Well atleast Eric Peterson is. I have Comcast. Went to the free music section and they have some Testament on there. Just the band jamming out 2 songs at what seems like nothing more than a rehersal space. Scholnik had a Marshall Mode 4. Peterson had a black 5153 half stack. Maybe this version of the 5150 series will be a hit with metalheads like the other 2 were. I own the 5153 and used to own a 5150II halfstack. The 5153 is certainly a different beast. It still has a ton of gain available but I think the there is still a quite a difference in voicing. Anyways if you have Comcast check it out.

Just checked my voicemail, a friend called to tell me Alex Skolnick is giving a guitar clinic tomorrow at a store that's only 5 minutes from house. Good news!

Awsome!

Skolnick

Eric used them on the album but I saw some live footage from New York a couple of days ago he had the Triple Rec and alex had the Mode Four

I am definetly interested to see The new Skolnick sig Heritage

I listened to the new album and the tones are HUGE! Alex is using .13s, the same gauge he uses for his jazz trio. Some of the most massive metal tones I have ever heard. A couple of killer tunes on there, too. Marshall mode 4?

Interesting. There is a Testament article in the new Guitar World(Yngwies on the cover). He talks about the 5153 and states that it's the only amp he used on the new CD. Regarldless I think it's pretty neat that he dug it. I'm curious to see if the metal community takes to the 5153 like it did the other 5150s.

It's cool amp but after my last two amps, which were Marshalls, the mid range on this amp took some time to get used to. It's a darker high gain amp like the Bogner but it's got a prominent mid quality to the tone. I think my ears are starting to adjust to it though. It has got gobs of sustain on the red channel which is a blast to play through. The blue channel is more in line with what you might expect from a Marshall-esq amp. Cleans are above average for a channel switcher.
