That was his signature model Ibanez..........
freaking awesome guitars!
Actually I think that was called a 540p. They had another 5440 power that was what Satch used for awhile that was more like his current model but with 3 mini toggles. I actually remember seeing a Youtube video of Pual Gilbert in the studio using a white one. Ibanez needs to reissue this guitar.

4-5 weeks from now I am building an Alder body Musikraft, copying the 540P
Skolnick didn't use the dome knobs that came with the 540P he used the larger soft rubber Cone type Knobs that the 90's Sound gear bass's came with..

man, I remember that catalog!! was right when I was about ready to start taking guitar lessons..I flipped through that damn brochure till it was ready to fall apart..lol

The Gathering had an enormous feeling about it........but i grew up on all testament, one of my all time favs.

I missed 'em on tour last year because we got to the venue too late, the Houston show last week was canceled, now I've got tix for next month here in town. Something will go wrong and it won't happen :(

Someone should post this video on TGP and in the title say "now THIS is TONE"

The Legacy is an amazing album. The New Order is quality, as is Souls of the Black. Rest of their discography has good songs but no albums that I really enjoy start to finish. Great live band though. Skolnick is better now than he was back in the day. I saw them on the reunion deal a couple years back and they were great... They just played songs from the first two albums and then one or two tracks from the second two albums.

I've seen Testament threads there - they usually get positive threads because of Skolniks jazz bent.

I had the 540 PHH. My Dad surprised me with it that year for Christmas after he saw me playing it at St Charles Guitar Exchange. He went back and got it later that guitar and got my brother a new bass. That was a cool Christmas. I wish had it back.

Yeh I had a one too
I never see them pop up on ebay, So I am just going to make my own

they are pretty rare and had a GREAT neck on them.
I was supposed to see Slayer, Testament and Megadeth on the 5th of Feb in Detroit....
Show was cancelled. Hopefully they will swing back around soon.
I bought a Guitar personally from Chuck Billy. He got it from Dimebag. One of Dimes Personal tour used guitars. I shit you not. I bought it when Dime was still alive and playing in Damageplan. Still have all the emails from Chuck on it and the printout of my paypal to him.

Just some TESTAMENT triva for you guys........

Dan

Love me some Demonic. Chuck really excells at the Death voice.

First discovered them in '89 when PWYP came out. I need to get the Gathering though. Never really been a big fan of Skolnick's leads though.

My fav testament song is return to serenity, I love the song but the solo is one of my favs.

+1 on Return to Serenity. Great song and a bad ass solo. I think James Murphy was the lead guitarist for that album. I'm a huge Testament fan since their first album The Legacy. My band had the honor of opening up for them in 2000 for The Gathering CD in Houston, TX. It was cool to meet Chuck Billy and Eric Peterson. I had them sign my CD and tablature book for The New Order that I'd had since High School. I will never forget it. I recently heard that on the upcoming tour with Megadeth that they will be performing The Legacy album in its entirety. I'm looking forward to the show in March.

No, the original Return to Serenity is on The Ritual where the solo was written and played by Skolnick. They re-released the track on some EP later though where Murphy played and the solo was cut a bit (there is also a video of the song with Murphy and the solo is even shorter there). But the original solo is by Skolnick and kick major ass.

Actually all their ballads have some incredible solos: The Ballad, The Legacy (song) and Musical Death.

You are absolutely right. Skolnick left after The Ritual didn't he? Actually, the ballad that I was thinking of that James Murphy played on was Trail of Tears off of the Low album. Real nice lead work on that one as well.

You don't rate PWYP?

Love me some Testament

Killer album. My favorite one is still The Legacy, but this one sounds really good.
