Man, when you find that perfect combo of parts, your rig really does come alive.

I have a Chupacabra and a Yeti. And while they're both basically the same amp (just slight voicing changes), I still prefer the Chupacabra for it's nasty upper-mid snarl. The Yeti is fuller, tighter, but not as angry. I've been using 'em with a Bogner 4x12 loaded with original G12-65s. Well I loaded another Bogner cab with new Chinese reissue Greenbacks. At first they were very fizzy and beamy. But after a week or so of playing at pretty low volumes, they've begun to really open up. They now sound tight and aggressive and quite spacious, if that makes sense. Like the sound isn't right in your ear. It's resonant and bouncy.

I also replaced the Chinese/Ruby EL34BSTRs in the Yeti with NOS '70s Teslas (not JJ). And the amp came alive. I've never noticed such a huge tonal change from power tubes. Usually it's pretty subtle. But for whatever reason, this Yeti is brighter and more open and more "woody" sounding with these tubes. And they've added some upper-mid grind. I also removed the insulation from the inside of the cab.

All of this has really made the setup perfect. It's nice flipping on your rig and having "your sound" right there. I was thinking of using the Yeti as a platform for various mods. But I might just leave it be now.

By contrast, I really like RFT and EH EL34s in the Chupa. But it sounds great through either cab (Greenies or 65s). The 65s are a bit dark for the Yeti. V30s are ok. But Greenbacks have to be my favorite speaker of all time.

Cool. I've found that any Marshall or modded Marshall circuit sounds soo much better with good vintage tubes, be it power or pre. Some other amps don't really change much in character with vintage tubes. I have an 83 800B cab with 65s, and a 425a with G12C greenies. Darker than G12Ms, they're similar to 65s. But with a more chimey high end.

G12C ? Never heard of 'em. Tell me more.

It's the 25w speaker in the Vintage Modern cabinets...
I think it's the same as a greenback reissue with different cones...
the tone is pretty similar...
if you like RFT's in the power section try some tungsrams in the preamp section...
thank me later....

I find the G12Cs clearly darker than the G12Ms. A bit sweeter up top though. I had an EVH cab with the heritage Ms, the 425 cab blew it away with the amps I had at the time..5153 50, 87 2205 and an SLO. They also put those speakers in the Hendrix cabs too. I also compared this cab to a 76 Blackback cab..425a won for me.

Yup, G12C's are total sleepers. Only available in the Hendrix cabs and the Vintage Modern 425 A/B cabs.

I have a 425B and an EVH 4x12 with the Heritage greenbacks, and I kept both because they sound completely different.

The 425 with the C's has this incredible mid range bark, and the heritage G12M's are a lot brighter.

The bottom end is also way tighter on the C's. The EVH cab can get a little loose.

Typicaly, I'll use the EVH cab for more classic rock type stuff and the 425B for heavier stuff as an alternative to a V30 cab.

In my area , the 425 cabs turn up for $400 - $450 Canadian$ all the time. Total steal in my opinion.
Every time I see one for sale, I want to grab it 'cause they sound so good, but I got nowhere to put another 4x12
But I keep thinkin' I should grab an "A" cab some day, you know...just to have the set..

Check em out if you get the chance.

I missed one of those VM cabs locally for $300CND in great shape :(

I found mine for 379 at GC.com. Mint....until they packed it with the casters roaming freely in the box. Of course one tore the grill slightly by the logo.now its almost mint. Damn. It still had the inspection stickers on the cab, I don't think it had been used much. From 2007. Sometimes I'll see them for 399, but GCs inventory has a few starting at 599 on up.
