Spontaneously I would consider Jagger, Springsteen, David Byrne, Freddie Mercury, Alice Cooper, David Lee Roth before the late Mr. Scott. Maybe Bowie and Bono.

I don't think of James Brown or Michael Jackson as frontmen.
 
I love all the guys you mentioned. Have music by all of them.
Out of your list I would take Freddy Mercury as the number one.
Guess it just depends on what effected me growing up. Bon was just the Man that was untouchable.

Wild Turkey 101 proof................ can make good dudes hard to be around. ;-) I read a story WAY back when, that they were still thinking about it just before he died, and that in a twisted way, it saved them the trouble of actually having to do it. :no:

As far as singing goes for sure, and maybe even in general, but Dave was a kill front man. I'm not a VH fan either, but I can still appreciate what he did for them in his prime.
 
Rob Halford has always had a pretty big stage presence IMO as well. For more modern music, Phil Anselmo was pretty good too before the H days. I almost got trampled standing near a mosh pit at an outdoor show in the 90's when he came out and jammed a song with Seplutura with no notice. I actually feared for my well being for a split second lol!

I tend not to like lead singers in general, but the great ones really can make a band so much better.
 
Bon's lyrics and songwriting were top notch....he had that uncanny ability in his tongue in cheek approach to lyrics.

Plus what other front man can pull this off?

Growing up AC/DC was my first band that I really got into music seriously (Buying tapes....etc) and AC/DC Bon Scott era was it for me! :rock:
 
I like Bon Scott era AC/DC best, Back in Black is more than enough Brian Johnson for me lol, made me move on/away from AC/DC.

My fav frontman is Steve Marriott, followed by Michael Sweet, not to mention a Faces-era Rod...and Paul Stanley in his prime, and Chuck Schuldiner, Dave Mustaine,... Sorry Bon. ;)

Queen "Flash Gordon Soundtrack"
Rolling Stones "Hot Rocks"
AC/DC "Powerage"

Some damn good listening there for sure. :thumbsup:
 
I think Robert Plant, Bruce Dickinson and Halford are up there, as well as Geoff Tate, Ronnie James Dio, Bono, Bowie, Jim Morrison, Paul Stanley, Alice Cooper, and DLR.

But I am sticking with Mercury, Scott, and Jagger as the best!
