Big powerful, musical tube not lacking in mids, bass or treble, if anything a little too much top end.

I agree with the attack not being like =C='s but my amps aren't "cloudy".

I still have 2 quads of EL-34 =C='s that got 5 years on them, saving them for later.

I would like to try TAD 34's, heard good things.

Chalk it up to different amp designs or biasing/voltages. I really wish I liked the tung sols. I've squirreled away like 7 quads of Winged C's so I'm set.

Interesting enough, I do like the JJ 6CA7's.

-ive been pounding the piss out of the stock-(JJ's I guess)-tubes in my JJ, with an embarrassingly high bias & plate voltage,.. they sound ok,... I like the description's I'm getting, the JJ is voiced dark, so I'm wanting more mids, more high's, more nasty!!... I'm actually gonna do a bias mod-(resistor & maybe even trim pot like I did on the 2203KK)-to get even more range,...

-I basically want it to scream like DARTH VADER's T.I.E. fighter,...

Thats good to know as i respect your opinion as a guy that knows what he's doing.

My amp tech is Production Manager @ MAGNATONE and he also works at my local shop just minutes away [he had that gig before MT] He also used to work at ST LOUIS MUSIC/CRATE AMPS.
Real humble guy always fixes my pedals/amps whatever i ask anyhow he used to bias my Friedman a "little hot" but these days since a run a wet/dry rig i bias for tube longevity, not "cold" just average.

The Friedman JMP can get very Brown after Daves tweaks, still can be brite but its much more Brown if u want it.

I set the Friedman darker as the DSL-100 is very BRITE [and then some] the two amps balance each other out in a very thick, full massive sound and the tubes sound great.

I boost the front [bottom & mids] with a 6 band MXR EQ and slam the front of both amps with either a Cheese Block Fuzz or the Zakk ZW-44.

I use a SS Fender combo clean with the DSL clean for a clean tone.

Ive worked hard last 11 years collecting & selling gear. I'm where i need to be now but i still am never completely satisfied.

My pick out of the new stuff that's available is EH6CA7 for Marshally type amps and/or sound, and Gold Lion KT-77 for higher gain amps or a more modern sound in a Marshally amp.

The Tung-Sol EL-34B is an alright tube, my ears don't like them as much as the above 2 tubes, but do like their lowend. If I run the Tung-Sol, I do it in an amp like a Diezel where you can mix and match. Herbert has a pair of =C=, pair of Tung-Sol, and a pair of Gold Lion KT.

It's a toss up for me between the Eh el34's and the Chinese el34b-str's. I use the Chinese tubes however because both of my el34 amps are somewhere in the 500 plate voltage range and the EH's aren't happy there.

Have to agree, in my amps the EH sound very good...especially for the money.
