Hello everyone,
I need your suggestions, I seek the best overdrive pedal to go with a marshall mini jubilee to have a thrash heavy metal sound! (Iced earth style)

I currently use an airis effect savage drive which, is an excellent pedal one of the best I've had but the sound is very typical modern metal.

In other words I am able to have this type of sound.

But I'm looking for an overdrive pedal or boost that would help me get closer to this type of sound!

With the amp only I almost get to have this type of sound when I but gain around 7 but I lose in defenition ... with the help of the savage drive I also get close by keeping a good definition but I win an extra 'djent` not wanted!

Thank you very much and I am waiting for your suggestion!

Jeff.

Ps: Sorry for the quality of my english i am french canadian!

Have you tried just clean boosting with a good old TS or TS variant?

Not yet but this is an option I was considering. I was looking for the mini ts but I still hesitated.

The sound sample I heard did not totally convince me!

One of the reasons why I ask for advice. To have several options to try!

Thanks :)

Basically you want to set that Jubilee up to sound like a JCM800. That's the classic NWOBHM sound.
I've never owned a Jubilee as I find them too mid scooped.
I'd dial in less gain and lots of mids and treble.
Articulation and definition comes from mids and treble.

Thank you so much for the info! As for the adjustment of the eq and the gain it is already done. I already adjust my amp in this way! ;) But when I do that I win in definition but I lose some bite! For this reason I am looking for an overdrive or a boost ...

One of the best ods I use w/ my Jubilee is a Maxon SD-9.

Keeley Red Dirt is a good one... also the old MXR Zakk Wylde OD.

I'm on my 8th Jubilee. 1 Reissue 2555x, and the rest silver/black originals. Have a 1990 2555 now.

The most open and uncompressed boost I've used, and I have a Savage drive, is the Boss OD1X. I also add a Danelectro Fish n Chips EQ in as well and bump the mids in a frown curve. Level 0. OD1X dials all at noon. I run the mids on the amp at 3-4, bass 6, presence maxed, treble at 5. Output master dimed and lead master to taste. Gain pulled and dimed. Through greenbacks or 65s gives me a tone that I love.

I use a Maxon OD-808 with my 2553 Silver jubilee and it works great, but may be too smooth. I would try a Boss SD-1 and then try an eq in the loop. The fish and chips EQ from Danelectro works great. You can get both these pedals for less then $100 total.

I'd look into a Zak Od or SD-1/SD-1W. They keep more bite in the tone compared to most ts variants.

This!!!! I love the Savage Drive too and it does more than modern metal IMO.

I love my savage drive and I use it in profusion to have more moderne tone...

I am very close to what I am looking for with only the jubilee, I just need the little more bite and tightness!

The SD-1 will give you the extra tightness and definitely the bite you need but it does cut the lows out like most ODs. Besides the Savage Drive, the SD-1 is my go to OD pedal. The SD-1W is pretty cool too.

I've played a bunch of OD pedals that I'd consider more open/uncompressed than the Savage such as the Cussack Screamer, Landgraff Mo-D and Timmy, although the Timmy wasn't a keeper for me. Never tried an OD1X though. I think the Maxon TBO-9 would be a great contrast to the Savage (it's a very overlooked pedal. It's tube driven and very different from the other Maxon od's) and the Cussack Screamer is also great. The Landgraff Mo-D is hands down the best I've ever owned or tried, but they're very expensive and good luck finding one.
