I have come to a startling conclusion. The XTC 20th is the best amp ever made. I've now owned one for a year and it hasn't stopped blowing me away, day after day.

The only thing it doesn't do incredibly well (but still "reasonably"!) is a brutal metal tone. That said, Ch. 3 gets close and, well, that's what the Diezel is for ;)

Just thought I'd share. Anyone in the market for a versatile amp cannot afford to overlook it.

I could not agree more, I love my 20th xtc so much, it's the most inspiring bit of gear I have ever bought.

Low volume and at gig levels it just sounds incredible but the thing that I love most is the feel, it's like it's helping you along, it's got your back for that tricky solo.

This couldn't be more correct. It's the amplification equivalent of a worn-in pair of slippers and a pipe: comfortable, warm and welcoming. It can still melt your face off though!

I love my version of the XTC which is the randall MTS version (Customised by Jaded Faith Mods) has the plexi channel and the blue and red channels ... If u have an mts modular system call rob at jaded faith and have him make you one you'll save 3k and get pretty much the same thing!

I can't get over how useful I find all 3 channels and how I continue to find new ways of using it. The 20th X is a dream come true for me. Even from the first note I held out with vibrato at practice I had my singer yell out "now that's tone!" Such a great feel and balance between the channels...Definitely a desert island amp...from clean to mean and all points in between...Reinhold's best work.

Since I've been doing this all morning, let me hijack this thread :D

I have an offer to buy a Bogner Ecstasy Classic with matching 4x12 for 3300$ (local)

Do it or don't do it?

I have the Ecstasy Classic and did the Cameron mod to the red channel. Killer amp desert island amp for sure. Never really get a tone I don't like from it.

Zep I have all the XTC stock/modded modules except Robs which I am sure is awesome and they get you maybe 90% of the way but the power section as I have mentioned in many other posts about the modular system is where the modules will never be 100%. There is something "magic" in a Bogner power section. Just like the Benzin module that Salvation does even Anthony mentions without the real Diezel power section it will never be exact. I have tried my ecstasy flavored modules through my Classic and Uberschall power sections and there is a huge difference. But hey when trying to buy a Porsche @ VW prices it's a pretty good deal and some sweet tones.

Haven't playe dthe 20th, but I really love the 101B. Best amp ever.....

Rob, you see what I have to deal with around here?

Love my 2oth Shiva and my XTC classic. Maybe one day I'll trade one for a 20th XTC.

I chuckeld when the OP said "Anyone in the market for a versatile amp cannot afford to overlook it"

The biggest problem is being able to afford it

If that is USD then I'd say that is overpriced. $2400 max for the head 600 max for the cab. If you are picking it up in person I'd say $2800-3k USD would be a great deal for you.

That's pretty steep. I sold my mint XTC Classic AND matching Bogner Uberkab to a fellow Rig-Talker last winter for $2750 shipped and PP'd across the country (cost me $250 to ship).

I've owned 3 XTC's and the 20th Anni and agree it's the most versatile amp I've ever owned. Just the right amount of sag and ear grinning goodness every time I plugged it in. And if I played primarily at home or in a one guitar band, I'd still have at least one of them. Unfortunately for the music I play, it just couldn't cut through the mix the way I wanted. The low mid voicing and Bogner growl that I love so much by itself, isn't mean & nasty enough. I'll likely own another Bogner, more likely a 6L6 Shiva than the XTC, but not for use in my current band.

What are you using that is meaner and has more growl? Uberschall? My Uber cuts pretty well in the band mix. Although when my other guitarist uses his 5150 iii they kinda meld. I found that pretty interesting. Haven't tried the Ecstasy in the mix with his 5150 iii yet.

I cut thru quite well against the mid heavy 6505+, but I prefer the tight excursion at volume, as does Reinhold. More high mids if that's your thing.

My favorite amp I have owned.

So that's what you wound up with?

I've owned the 20th Shiva and XTC 101B. Cool amps for hard rock and clean but never did it for me for metal or leads.....YMMV.
