Being honest, I want to know exactly what we gave and came away with in the talks with China. Clearly not going to get that from MSM or, and work with me, the uber partisan “sources” reporting from their mom’s basement. Scouting everything I can find, and reading between the lines, it feels like Trump barely held his own and is trying to polish a turd. Time will tell…

Only those 2 and the translators will ever know the truth

Truth about what was said… The results of the conversation will be clear in time. It’s likely both sides will claim an “understanding” and progress, but I doubt anything substantive results from the meeting. To many disparities and a bridge too far to cross in one meeting.

What seems clear is China’s absolute Taiwan red lines. I’d like to see the US get serious (really serious) about eliminating reliance on Taiwan for semiconductors. It’s important for national security. Focus on self-reliance there and elsewhere…

Taiwans only asset is their manufacturing ability for cheap.

Bring that shit back here and somehow be competitive about it we wont need Asian products

Agreed, but that manufacturing prowess requires significant skill and investment. It’s a years-long (decade?) effort. We should have known that and planned for it 20 years ago… We (US) have a lot of resources. Fuck exports and prioritize them for domestic use. Maybe this is one area where the gubment forces our interests above private profit? Tricky topic, I know…

I'd like to know more about the financial importance of Taiwan. Defending democracy in SE Asia can get expensive (Vietnam) and it my seem crass but....what's in it for us?

One thing I heard was that China committed to buying 200 Boeing aircraft.

That alone would be a lotta moola.

Of course, I heard nothing on the MSM here in Oz.

I’ve seen it on multiple MSM sites. The expectation I read was they would buy 500 and backed off to 200…
