maddnotez's "Techs, explain the need for extended scale lengths." thread has brought up a debate on lowered tunings that we can settle here and now...this is important stuff!

The reason I don't tune to E is because it sounds too high pitch to my liking, almost twangy.

Also metal isn't a fad jerkoff It's been around since the late 70's and has gotten bigger and bigger over the years.

Look at lamb of god. I think they won an Emmy or some shit and they're all making 200k+ a year.

Might not have been around since the classic rock days but it's currently lasted about the same time frame. 30+ years give or take for both.

I can tell you one thing there are new low tuned metal bands coming out every day left and right and how many new classic rock bands are there? Not a lot.

It may even be enough to say once the current majority of these fans are gone (your generation) it will be no more?

Maybe classic rock was the fad because metal is on the track of out living it.

C# standard most of the time, normal standard for the rest. The biggest deciding factor when it comes to tuning is my voice. I guess I have to choose the "I'm under 40...you mean Drop C isn't standard tuning???". Even though I never have used drop tuning and I sometimes use standard

I picked 40+ and drop C; my Strats are in that tuning, but my LPs are in standard and my 7 is in drop A. I don't fit in here. Never have.

Tons of new bands out there doing pop, rock, indie, garage, etc. (granted most of the popular ones try to sound like Arcade Fire). All those bands use standard tuning. I don't think anybody else but metal bands use drop tunings.

I use standard E unless I'm taking a musical mental break and I'm covering a kiddie cookie monster two string chord song.

Barely under 40 in standard tuning. I'm just too lazy to reintonate and set up my Floyd Rose type guitars for drop tunings and my one fixed bridge doesn't hold its tune well. I wouldn't mind getting a more stable fixed bridge guitar to chug on though.

Because of that technicality you actually need a very well tuned and good sounding guitar to make out everything they are doing

Apparently, Jazz music is super easy to play, once you learn the intricacies of playing Death Metal? Who'd of thunk?
