everyone talks about it-but what is your prime example of it?

this one is kinda how i hear the classic generic example of plexi tone in my mind, although this is a bit on the bright side of it and dave bray modded:

and this is how i'd be more inclined to hear and run a plexi ala greasy geo:

granted there is a bit of thd soaking and pedals on that, but those are all part of my plexi formula i dig. i've found my ultimate plexi in a mojave peacemaker, which i had vic and craig tweak and customize at the shop for more jtm45 fatness and a gain bump,

but what is your favorite plexi tone examples?

for me, this is the quintessential plexi tone

It might not even be a Marshall (e.g., old Laney, Sound City, Park, etc. ???), but it sure as hell says 'plexi' to me.....

As a side bar: what the HELL is Angus wearing?! :hys:

He's wearing whatever the F$#% he wan't to wear. He's Angus Young.

Check out clips for Soren Andersen. He has some of my favorite "Plexi" clips.

honestly it's vh tone that made me interested in plexis but as time goes by i become more interested in how dynamic an amp can sound, and ultra high gain doesn't always lend itself to that.
i can emulate vh brown on my peacemaker but it's all or nothing at that point.

it is lots of fun though!

some faves of the tone i speak of regardless of true plexi or not, courtesy lance keltner

and one of the coolest tones of this era...might not be plexi but captures the magic strat/marshall thing

Guess I'm still young enough to dig it. ;) I don't consider this ultra high gain. Yeah, it's hot rodded, but when I think Plexi, that's the sound that enters my brain.

i love eddie's tone too
im not saying his is super high gain but as soon as the examples start heading toward vh tone the original plexi thing starts becoming harder to define imo
