I'm getting ready to buy an ax8 and i'm reading thru a LOT of forums.
One thing I keep seeing over and over is dude's offing their pedals and stacks and going full on to the dark side
cool
Whatever makes you happy.
I plan on keeping all of my stuff cause

So a few thoughts on this
1.there's a lot of nice gear floating around at great prices.
teehee
2.It really reminds me of what happened when the yamaha DX7 came out and Analog synths were seen as passe' and 'old'.
3.Over a short period of time those analog synths that were sold off appreciated in value and are now ridiculously over priced and really in demand.
4.There are TONS of amazingly insane NEW hardware analog synths being made by many companies in a variety of formats[modular/desktop/kits/keyboards] that have more features than the originals[usb/built in effects/midi/upgradeable firmware etc]
5.Many of those new synths while cool as hell DO NOT SOUND LIKE the old school originals that have that SPECIAL MOJO SAUCE ON THEM.
6.By now you are doing the math and can see the obvious parallels to the Amp/Pedal GAS world we live in as guitarists.
There are indeed many similarities.
Tastes change, things go in cycles, etc etc.
It's late and i'm an insomniac so I'll stop rambling now-thank you for your attention.

i guess all i'm trying to say is______________________

you probably saw this other dude who sold his rig for an AX8 only to ditch the Fractal after a couple of days :D
I saw him in at least 2 forums.

It actually has the opposite affect on me. I'm able to try different amps, pedals, spekers, cabs and mics through my axe and the ones that become my favorite, I'll buy the real thing. I've done it with amps and pedals and I've had gas for a real SLO for a long time because I love it in the Axe.

Just depends on how much cash a person has and if they can have piles of potential money siting around not being used.... and how much space they have for stuff to be sitting around not being used.

This was the case for me. I got the AX8 and loved it but sold it within a few weeks. Thankfully I didn't sell my rig :)

Best recorded tones I have gotten myself but I'm a noob anyway. I'd take another in a second if I could afford it but for me to use one permanent I'd need a nice FRFR. I couldn't afford one and the price on the convenience factor of owning an AX8 I couldn't justify.

I was able to get a great 2x12 for portability and start a pedal board with the money from selling the AX8. Is a great product and if it's affordable I'd recommend it to anyone. Sounds different but great and the convenience can't be beat however there is nothing like a tube amp and one of them had to go.

Regarding the flavor of the month item idk. Fractal has been around for a while, the tech and sounds are getting better and I can't see them going anywhere. Cliff is a genius imo.

I've gone full to the digital dark side. I recently just sold the last of my 3 halfstacks. But I hadn't touched any of them in over a year. They've been sitting in my garage collecting dust. I've been a Fractal and Kemper user for about 4 years now but just for home use. Until the AX8 came out. I got my AX8 last February and have been gigging that ever since. Literally haven't touched my amps since then. I thought about keeping the amps but I will never use them again so no point. Might as well go to a good home and I think they did.

bought a kpa. didnt sell any amps to fund it.

sold the kpa pretty quickly. still love my tube amps.

If i played the Casino circuit like several friends i know with the FOH sound police i would consider a "pick up the handle & go" modeler.

They don't want bands clearing the first 10 rows of the older folks getting their Blues Buzz on ...

For outside gigs it would be two 100 watt heads, two 4x12's.

Looks like you picked up a couple more Tone Towels.

70's 25 watt Blackback cabs are the best Rock cabs you'll ever find, just make sure the Celestions are in good shape.
I had some leftover dense foam from replacing foam in a roadcase and lined the inside bottom half of each 4x12, its now super tight, tight, tight ...

You can never have to many towels ... ;)

I keep the pedals covered cuz my GF's long hairs get everywhere including clogging the shower drain.

I can definitely understand due to budget, it's an either/or situation and not the keep both. I did the roller coaster where I was all amps, then all Line6, then all amps, then all Line 6, then AxeFx Ultra, etc...

For me it took patience and planning to get off the roller coaster. Meaning, currently I have amps, pedals, AxeFx, FRFR system, etc...but it took years of collecting. No way could I buy everything all at once or even close together and keep everything.

If you get an FX8 or ax8 there's no need to keep all your pedals. I kept a few but flipped many. Great times to be a guitarist!

As an avid owner and fan of the Kemper Profiler, I will advise folks to not sell their amps in favor of the delusion that they'll finally be GAS free.

Getting a Kemper has made buy more amps. Why? No it's not because I think it sounds digital or I don't like the feel. I maintain that the KPA as well as the Axe FX (I haven't tried the Helix and Bias) are absolutely amazing and largely hassle-free. They're perfect for recording in a sub-optimal environment. They're perfect for practicing at a comfortable sound level without compromising tone and feel. The KPA enables me to play and record in way that is extremely efficient and enjoyable. Additionally, I've noticed less ear-fatigue using the Kemper and basically no bad tone days (plenty of bad playing days though).

So why the hell would I keep buying amps? Because I've accepted the fact that I love guitar gear. I love to tinker when the mood strikes me, be that with recording, or settings or profiling or whatever. It's always good to have a variety of gear if you can swing it.

I am selling my AX8 currently.

Funding a Les Paul and will be "getting by" with a Katana 100 head, The Kemper and AX8 are hands down amazing. I expect I will have an AxeII MKII before the summertime. I prefer (for the time being) my real amps into the Torpedo Studio for recording.

I would NEVER sell my amps for a modeler. I think both serve a particular purpose.

Go for it man, have you ever played anything Fractal? Is pretty awesome stuff.

I usually go back and forth every two years or so and now I'm starting to think I should just keep a tube amp on hand. I just hate owning gear I'm not actively using.
