It’s been a while since I’ve seen one of these. They typically pop up online two or three times a year.

Buyer beware, I’ve owned two of these and passed on several as (IMO) they were built with a design flaw: a tendency to develop cracks on the back cavity wall of the humbucker rout between the Floyd Rose stud inserts. Look out for this, The problem is this is always obscured by the pickguard.

Fender/Fuji-gen should’ve either moved the humbucker rout closer to the neck (like Luxxtone does) or used something other than basswood for the body. That said, the neck is my absolute favorite profile ever. Very fast and shreddy, but comfortable.

Sometimes you’ll see these come up for sale and people don’t know what they have, model-wise. When the seller knows it’s an HRR, it’s almost a guarantee there will be a higher asking price. some telltale signs of this model are: volume and tone knobs being in a straight line configuration (different than the classic Strat placement), contoured heal neck plate stamped USA with a “Made in Japan” sticker on the neck just a couple inches higher (LOL), recessed trem cavity, and the ones with maple boards have black inlays but the rosewood boards have a silver inlay.

Thanks for the info! I’ve been following these for a while and have heard about the bridge pickup route cracking into the hole for the bridge post. I never knew that about the knobs being aligned. I’ll have to take a closer looks

Sure thing! The volume knob placement being adjusted is very minute, but I first noticed it when I overlaid an HRR pickguard with a regular Strat one.

I saw the HRR on the guitar center page, which I’d guess you’ve seen too, but I didn’t mention it as there’s been a ton of hardware changed on that guitar.

I’ll give you a shout if a good one pops up.

Yes, I saw that one at GC and am staying away for that reason. Last year I saw a smaller store had two that were in great shape (though one had a d-tuna installed) for well under $1k but they sold quickly. I’ve since learned to not wait around if a good one comes on the market. There’s also that white one that’s been on eBay for well over a year with a BIN of $2500! I contacted the seller but they won’t go any lower than $2k, lol.

Found one a few months ago on the Musicgoround website. Got it for $550. I’m currently in the process of doing my usual mods of a 2 knob mint pickguard, changing out the humbucker for a Pariah Pasadena black, and Suhr wiring. I’ll post pics when it’s done but here is the website photo.

I agree with this. It’s not a matter of if they crack, but when.

Finally finished it.
The upgrades:
- mint custom Warmoth pick guard
- Pariah Pasadena Black in the bridge, Suhr V60LP middle, Seymour Duncan stacked YJM neck.
- “Suhr” wire harness by 920D Custom
- Red Bishop magik bar system for the Floyd.
- removed finish from back of neck and re-finished it with Tru Oil wax.

Spent some time with it last night. Damn, it sounds and plays great! Tuning stability is rock solid. I was a little worried with the Floyd being 30 years old. It’s super light too. The Pariah Pasadena pickup sounds incredible. Very full and open sounding. Didn’t know how it was going to match with the basswood body.
Overall I’m extremely pleased.

Agree. Definitely the most comfortable for me, tone and physically. They’re the most versatile of any guitar. I could play a prog rock/metal gig, to straight up pop rock, then play on a Sunday at church. All with the same guitar.
