From the video, I'm not impressed.

To my ears, simply rolling down the bass a hair and rolling the treble up a tad on the 2009 recto, and it would be the same sound.

At the end of the day they are both Dual Rectifiers...

thats kinda what I was getting at, if all they did was shifted the eq and presence points up on the 2010 model, it isn't really a fair comparison if you can dial them both ino sound the same

True, but (ignoring the extra features) I'd be surprised if they were limited to just a shifted EQ taper. Historically Randall Smith seems to know his markets and has and tweaked his amps in an effort to remain relevant. I think the Roadking II and (particularly) the Roadster are both good examples of this... and now the Dual/Triple are getting their facelift.

I have noted that Mesa's limiting their claims to improvements to the clean, raw and vintage modes (no mention of changes to modern), and I'm assuming that 'improved channel cloning' means they tamed channel 3's presence pot.

eh, I dunno, I have a new 2010 recto, and I like it quite a bit more than the 3ch dual rec I had. I still prefer it boosted, but I could actually use this amp unboosted and still like it, which was not the case with my old one. The presence seems easier to use, and it stays tighter and more percussive than my old one with the same amount of lowend. The clean is definitely improved, but I think the modern/vintage modes on the 2 gain channels also gained something, even if it was small. It reminds me more of the Rev. G 2ch dual rec I had, although maybe a bit brighter. I would fully expect the previous 3ch and the 2010 could be dialed in the same, that's not surprising to me, but I do feel the EQ has been opened up a bit more for my personal tastes.

The new features are also pretty nice to have IMO. The 50W/100W setting on the front per channel is a very handy feature, and I really like having a choice of rectification for each channel independently. I mainly use the modern or vintage/diode/100W setting on red ch for my rhythms, matched up with the vintage/tube rectified/50W setting on orange for leads. It gives me a familiar big tight modern sounding rhythm channel, along with a nice saturated lead channel that has a bit of sag and compression. Overall, very happy with this amp for what I paid, and it still sounds like a recto, which is the reason I bought it.

I haven't owned a Rev F or Rev C, so I haven't fully experienced the "Holy Grail" of recto tones yet. I plan on it though. All I can compare it to is the Rev G 2ch and previous 3ch version. Out of those, it reminds me more of a good sounding Rev G, with added flexibility and features.

I will say also though, like mentioned, I've heard the same thing about the rectos being very inconsistent overall, so it could just be as simple as finding a good one as opposed to getting a lemon. :dunno:

Yeah....I liked the 2010 over the older model I A/B it against....

Meh..Give me an older (pre 2010) recto and a tubescreamer. If you can't get it done with that, it ain't the amp.

Just buy an older recto and send it to Friedman. Way better than any version, including the old 2-channels:)

I've probably now owned close to 90 Rectos (literally), including every revision of the 2 channel, a first run 3 channel Triple I got straight from the factory, rackmounts, etc. I spent about 2 hours with the 2010 Triple and immediately could tell a difference in it versus the older 3 channels I've owned.

only 90?

Hopefully the high number wasn't due to failure, I only had one Mesa that failed, my Triaxis burned up and Mitch Faber at Mesa walked me through the repair.

I've never had a Mesa amp give me trouble before. I just like giving all the revisions a try. The guys at The Boogie Board have seen them all come and go. I have a few I keep now.

The definition of Insanity: Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

And finally... after much debate... which will continue of course until we've all said the same things over and over again a few times :-p...

we just published our in-depth review of the new Dual Rectifier, and had an older 2-channel (April '99) Recto side-by-side with it. Here you go:

Bottom line: We think the amp is improved in absolutely every way. This is a welcome revision.

Does the 2010 Rec have any channel switching lag?

A have a 2010 model, I personally don't experience any lag or pop when switching channels.
