I finally got the new, made in Germany, Floyd Rose "1984" model trem system in the other day and this thing has a couple of really cool "throw back" features on it. First of all, it has the big brass block on it like the Floyds had in the early days. It also has brass fine tuners. Very cool.

And before, anyone complains that Floyd Rose is ripping off Floyd Upgrades. That wouldn't be too accurate since Floyd Rose was using big brass blocks 27-28 years ago. I installed one of these new bridges on my Charvel and it is just kick ass.

And Floyd Rose is also offering just the big, brass block's for a surprisingly good price.

If they'd make the old floyd without the fine tuners for us guys with locking tuners, I'd be all over it!

Haven't the fine tuners always been brass? These are just unplated versions. I wonder if there is a clear coat on them or if they will tarnish up right away?

Yes, the fine tuners have always been brass. It just took a long time to wear the black off of them if you were going for that relic/heavily played look. I don't think there is any clear coat on them.

Even with locking tuners...it's still kinda cool to "fine tune". They call them that for a reason. Micro tune.

Even if you don't use 'em....just...don't use them? :dunno:

Man, it's about time someone started making them right again!

Ahhh, they kinda get in the way of my palm. I have sort of big hands, and it grates on the base of my wrist. They're just uncomfortable to play for me, but doing away with the fine tuners would go a long way to making them fun to use for me.

Made in Germany and good metal just belong in the same sentence.

Keep an eye out for them on Ebay, I got one there for $15 a few years ago. (one of the early production ones without the fine tuners)

Wow, sounds like a killer snag! Good for you! :gethim:

Oh I have to get me one of these!

BTW Curt that s/s/h charvel had the middle pup go bad and I just replaced it, what is up with the electronics on the usa models?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Do the big brass blocks make that much of a diff? What is the difference to the sound? More sustain? Thicker tone? stability?

Middle pickup is a Seymour Duncan. Nothing to do with Charvel on that. That's on Duncan if it failed. The switches on the USA Charvels were very cheap. Pop a $15 Switchcraft in them and they are good to go. For $800 ish you aren't going to get everything top of the line. If you spend an additional $2200 on a boutiquey guitar you will get a switch that's worth $10 more. :D

I would say louder acoustic resonance which I believe almost always translates into a better sounding guitar. There is more sustain and a thicker tone, but it also sounds more articulate to me, if it's even possible to combine those three things.

Boutiquey would have virgin copper mined from the holy land by monks bound to silence and hav some name no way I could pronounce

I'll call ya tomorrow, need a pup for something else I am building.

The original Floyd on my 1985 Kramer Baretta doesn't have the big ass brass block. :( But it is made in Germany and the sucker is pretty heavy.

I think by '85 they were using the smaller blocks.
