"The Book of Souls" was released yesterday.

Oh yeah... it's currently playing through my PA (with subs)... and three songs in I'm digging it. NOT disappointed so far.

My preorder showed up earlier today, it's a good album.

Yeah it's the best they've done in a long time for sure.......

best since fear of the dark.. love speed of light..

Ok, I'll play :D

I'll be damned if this isn't the best album they've done since 1992.

I've been listening to this for roughly a week now (had to get the pirated copy as soon as it hit the webz, but got the album on Friday as well OF COURSE), and I'm still in a bit of an awe how 60 year old dudes can renew themselves like this and sound the same at the same time.

Awesome album..definitely one of their best current releases...

You guys have convinced me... I'll have to order it up!

haha.. that reinforces my statement about the best since Fear of the Dark..

and WOW.. the mix is spot on. it sounds great. can wait to see the stage setup for this one.

I think he is ok now.

No veteran metal act, godlike talent considered, has continued to create masterpieces in the new millennium at the level of The Book of Souls. And to put things into deeper perspective, Bruce Dickinson sang every note on The Book of Souls while suffering from Stage 3 tongue and throat cancer, sporting a tumor the size of a golf ball on the back of his tongue. This is why despite the bickering and superiority arguments put forth by all types of metalheads, Iron Maiden remains the intangible element.

I agree with a bunch of you guys. I think it's the best since Fear Of The Dark (and I love that album).

The choruses aren't as repetitious as they've been in recent years. The band sounds inspired again. The writing and production are great. Overall, the album is a masterpiece.

I'm probably on listen number three. Many more on the way!

Up The Irons!

Ho-ree shit!!! I had NO idea that Cap'n Bruce had cancer. Damn! The guy is my musical/renaissance man hero and one of a kind. So many mediocre, lazy "artists" in the world today and he still rocks circles around them ALL! I'll have to read your link when I've got some time later (currently installing THREE exterior doors in my house today).

I have been a die hard Maiden fan since 82.. my very first concert was 84 Powerslave with WASP as the opening act at reunion arena in Dallas.

fast forward 30 years and I am still as die hard now as I was then only I have managed to build a Maiden (among many others) collection of vinyl, bootlegs, cds, dvds, toys, you name it..

I have been to every concert on every tour since then. the last few albums were ok. few good tracks on each one. el dorado was a cool tune of Final Frontier. it's gone into the collections.

this new one has been on blast since I downloaded it last week. Yes I downloaded it haha.. but I also have all three versions now and the best buy single.

listened to speed of light... not bad, but i wasn't blown away. Kind of reminds me of the production they had on the No prayer for the dying album for some reason. I personally feel Dave Murray doesn't play very inspired anymore. Just a bunch of crammed in pull offs and hammer ons. He used to craft some tasty stuff. Adrian still smokes though, shits all over everyone else in the band guitar wise I always say! total stud.

There are way better songs than Speed Of Light on there

Yeah, Speed of light might be the weakest track. All in all I think it´s a lot better than the last three, but not quite as good as Brave new world.

I'd say, after 10 or so spins, Speed of Light really gives you as little idea of the album as say Different World gave of AMOLAD.

I thought the same thing of Davey before listening to the full album, the solo on Speed of Light is erm... very basic Murray (as for that matter so is H's solo as well, he's very much on autopilot on that one IMHO). BUT after listening to the whole album, I'm very VERY surprised! Mr. Smiley plays with such fire & passion on most of the other tunes I have to say I've not heard him play in 20-25 years, not even live. Sure he plays with his strengths, pull offs/hammer ons/legato but he really has managed to incorporate a lot of feeling in there, a lot of "conviction", "fire" and "passion" shine through. Very inspired is what I'd say.

And Gers plays his ass off on a couple of songs too! The song dedicated to Robin Williams man... the solos are outstanding from all Three Amigos. They're not technical or even that shreddy, but the feeling... spot on. Or even beyond.

One thing that actually bugs me is the presence of Kirk Hammett on the album. No, he's not physically playing or anything, but I get the feeling at least A. Smith's been consulting Hamett on using wah LOL :D. Damn he stands on that thing too much!

Did anyone else think they intro riff to Speed of Light is just Enter Sandman?

Apart from that the album rocks!

Hehe, didn't think of that :D I thought it had a kinda Purple vibe to it (the whole song actually), but now that you mention it, there is something very similar to the riffs ;).
