The new Marsha sim is WOW

To my ears the 1st part has a little more depth and growl so I guessing that's the marsha?
Either way, I'm really impressed.

Extremely close, quite impressive. I'm guessing take #1 is the amp.

Let's hear it!

Ok, ask and you shall receive

what this clip is- a couple simple riffs, and it's Marsha #2 (second one made) on the BE channel and the Axe FX Marsha (BE)... I plugged the head into my Faustine attenuator set for load and took the line out into my interface. In Logic, I used a Red Wirez greenback sim mic'd with a 57.

Then I plugged the axe fx into my interface, and used the same Red Wirez greenback sim (no cab simulation used on the Axe FX).

This way, you hear the real amp, and the modeled amp, fed into exactly the same "cab and mic".

You guys tell me which is which!

I like 1 slightly better, but what does it matter when they sound this close. There's a few guys on TGP that will swear till they're blue in the face that they can pick the Axe apart from a real amp 100% of the time. I'd to hear them try this clip.

Not sure which is which, but I prefer the first one (bigger, fuller sounding). Since it sounds more like the couple of Axe FX Marsha direct clips I've heard, I'll say that's the "fake" one. :)

Pfft... unannounced that it was a modeler, I had people asking if I was using my JMP way back in software version 5 or 6.

The problem with the "guess this" type clips is it gives away that there's a modeler so it's like a true/false question where you have a 50/50 chance of being right. I think those odds are too good, allowing some who guess "correctly" to triumphantly claim "I told you so."

It's hilarious how many with golden ears fall by the wayside when they're not told up front they're listening to a modeler.

Both of Pete's clips sound great. I could happily use either one and while I don't usually play the guessing game, I'll guess that #1 is the amp and #2 the Axe. Something in the twanginess of #1 tells me amp, but it could go either way.

I'd vote 1 is the amp like most here...but in a mix they would both work and it would be pretty tough (near impossible) to tell it's a model.

+1

I actually hear more pumping and breathing in #2--that one sounds more like a real amp to me.

Cheers,

Yeah let it ride. But what i would like compared is the Marsha to a real cab miced to the Axe direct.

We should do that..... I don't have my Axe anymore as it's en route to London for tour, but you guys at TM should do it.... Also, the Axe into SS Poweramp, through guitar cab mic'd vs. Marsha through the same cab too.

It was so close I am not going to guess ..... it sounds great.

Wait a minute !??! I thought you had two ( 2 ) ....

I was able to play through a small (and shitty) PA last night at rehearsal...well it ended up not being a rehearsal as our bass player got sick on the way. But my singer(and other guitarist) played his PRS through the axe while I sat there and tweaked....the sounds that were coming out of those speakers was just insane. I got my patches set up for my gig this weekend while we messed around with it. He wasn't sure what to think of it since he's never actually heard one before, has a 100 watt marshall halfstack, etc...he could not stop playing. Our drummer was basically sitting there looking stupified...just totally quiet in disbelief.

I set up a few patches using the brown sim and the marsha sims....they just sounded unreal. I barely slept last night.

Great clip. Both sound excellent. I love these tests. The "Axe will never sound as good as a tube amp" guys never show up.

having played both...the feel is there.

i will say however...it's more of "thing" not having the air moving behind you with a 4x12. there is something different about that that could contribute to the "feel" everyone says. imo.

that is the big difference for me between the axe fx and the "real" amps.

both have their place...and it's opinion and choice that determines which is best in YOUR situtation.

i love amps...and i love my axe fx.
