The Peavey 6505+ output is really more like 80 or 90 watts rather that 120 yea or nay ?

They run the power tubes really hard with high screen voltages triode strapped. The B+ is pretty big too. The bias is cold from the factory for crossover distortion which Ed liked and peavey liked too from a warranty perspective. The cold bias is literally the only thing neutering them. They’re capable of a full 120W just with the bias mod.

As I’ve always said I have a ton of experience modding 5150’s and the bias mod is by far the most important. My amp is every bit as loud as my Marshall’s if not louder.

Tell me about this mod. Is it applicable to the 60w combo?

There’s a single resistor you swap out on the bias board of 6505+ to fix the range of bias. You can google it as it was documented quite heavily in the day but if you need more help I can post a schematic capture

Honestly always felt a Twin Reverb was louder than most "100" watt half stacks but that's me  :dunno:

I did a bias mod on my old 5150 BL and ended up taking it out because I preferred the amp without it. Super easy to do and reverse. Took about 15 min each way. Make sure you check your voltages. These amps have a resistor that drains the caps, but it can take a few minutes, so just check it appropriately and you'll be fine. Also, I'm sure they have videos these days on YT of guys performing this. I just went off of the pictures that came with the kit I bought.

Typically tubes are chosen to compensate for the cold bias these days. If you didn’t retube it at the same time to a colder tube it probably did sound off. Just food for thought.

Clean for clean you’re probably right. But no twin reverb will sound like a 5150, so it’s a moot point.
That is no joke! and it’s sad cuz a fucklot of us have tried everything to make it so… and we still haven’t.

Just had a 5150 done with the bias mod.. Never going back 🤘🏽 but all I play is the brutals.. lol & I’ve came to the conclusion that- the hotter the better for me 😛 Might not be for everyone but why not run it optimally & get the most out of it.. Does it really slim down tube life like crazy? I did pass on the choke mod however I’m trying to find a 6505 to have both mods done..

I run the choke, MM OT, bias, pentode conversion, and removed the crunch channel to significantly improve the clean channel. Even with pentode capability I still run 6L6s. Amps a monster.

I had transients peaking as high as 136dB through mine using EV Force 12's as gauged with an app intended for OSHA work on the kid's i-phone, measured approx one foot from the speakers.

I need this in my life 🤦🏻‍♂️

The biggest mistake I ever made was selling those Splawn cabinets. I ordered those back when eminence was the supplier for small blocks for Scott. Cabinets sounded killer. Now eminence doesn’t make them someone else does. They did only one thing but they did that only one thing really well.
