LMAO w/the Salt Bae..
Do you still do the 5150 mods? Also I noticed it said 5150 ii. Do the same mods apply to both models?

Thankfully the newer 6505 and + boards have the same traces as the 6534.I can certainly still do the mods to a 5150 no problem. The 2.5 to 2 channel conversion is a bit different between a 5150 and a 5150 II. I can also recap an older one if desired. Note the pentode conversion involves cutting traces and basically turns a 6505 into a 6534. I was doing this well before the 6534 existed.

So I’ve never messed with a 6534.. know nothing about them. I’ll have to look into some shootout videos to get a grasp of what their tone is like.. I’m trying to track down another 5150 & will be reaching out when that time comes![]()
Here's a good video from @the other John Browne that compares the 6534 to a 5150 & JVM. To my ears the 6534 sounds like a mix between the other two.So I’ve never messed with a 6534.. know nothing about them. I am digging the sound for sure! Never knew dudes modded them to this extent.. Were you running EL34s in that video you shared?Best way to describe this mod is that it’s if a Marshall and a 5150 were mixed. It’s closer to a 5 gain stage Marshall afterwards except more rowdy and hefty due to the 5150 circuit design stemming from a SLO.
A cool idea.

I definitely did not. Either way, not going back to the Peaveys at this point, so meh.Typically tubes are chosen to compensate for the cold bias these days. If you didn’t retube it at the same time to a colder tube it probably did sound off. Just food for thought.
