There is just SO much choice out there now.

I have a brand spanking new Fender American strat -> Marshall JVM 205H -> framus cab with V30's.

I want a pickup that has and can do the following.

- Not high output as the JVM only sounds good with the gain past 5 and with a high output pup it is too much gain for me.

- Can do a decent VH kind of tone

- Is tight enough to play NWOBHM style metal with it ie Iron Maiden

- Open sounding, as the JVM is quite compressed on the OD channels

Thats all folks. I have given up, and if I read one more 10/10 review on HC reviews I am going to shoot myself.

So far I have been thinking:

Bareknuckle pickups = VHII

Motorcity pickups = Blister Bucker or Detroiter

Seymour duncan = 59'

Never really tried any Dimarzios apart from the super distortion that was ok

Any advice would be appreciated.

I've mounted the Bareknuckle VHII in the bridge position in my fender strat with floyd rose (hss config) last week. I replace the JB because I wanted a more dynamic pickup with less compression and output...th VHII is fantastic for me, not modern voicing, is more vintage voicing, bass and treble are solid and the pickup erupt without being harsh or muddy all freq came out with the right balance between power and organic sound!!
I can descride so well becouse my english is bad..I hope I help you a little.

Is your strat dark, or bright? Alder or Ash or something else?

I mean, you could probably score a Duncan 59 for $45 bucks, used, somewhere. That would be a great place to start. Open sounding, woody tone, and the mids are very natural and not boosted like a JB or anything. Definitely not a hot pickup, at around 9k.

That would match up really well with single coils as well.

I love the Anderson H2+ in my fat strat. It splits really well too. I play old school metal as well. You may want to check out the H2 or one of the lower gain Anderson's if the gain is too much. I find the Anderson H2+ and H3 I had to be very clear and not muddy.
