I'm glad you're enjoying it.

Started wiring up for the Studer A800 that should be arriving Sunday and playing a slew of Marshall amps! Stacks of Dave Friedman modded Marshalls and a cameo of Jerry Luxxtone!

 
It sounds amazing! I can already hear the tone on guitars. We aligned it for 456. Did some tracking at 15 and 30. Fun, fun, fun!

Awesome ,congrats! thats top shelf right there...here's an old article of when Yngwie Malmsteen bought his and points out how heavy the beast is!
Yngwie favors an analog guitar sound--nearly all of Magnum Opus was recorded in analog; only a few minor parts were put onto a Tascam DA-88--which is why it was imperative that his studio have its own Studer. "The Studer is the king of analog machines," says Yngwie, "and any world-class studio has one. Sony and Otari make an analog machine that is pretty good. But Seiko makes a good watch--I wear a Rolex. And you could never duplicate the sound of the Studer with a digital machine. If you were to record jazz, or maybe even rap, digital is handier and easier to work with. But guitar-based rock music sounds so much better with the Studer. No question."

Just getting the Studer into the second-floor studio was a Herculean task. "I had to get up at seven in the morning to help supervise the movers," explains Yngwie. "It took three big, muscular guys--two underneath and one pulling on it--to tug that sucker up the stairs. The Studer weighs about 600 lbs. And it cost $600 just to have it carried up one flight of stairs! Those guys just barely made it. They were sweating bullets!
 
jesus i didnt know anything like that still existed. when you said you were going to get a reel of tape i figured it would be something totally different lol - nothing like that ever registered in my head :lol: :LOL: :rock:

it sounds great too - very alive and complete where nothing stands out that isnt supposed to.

Congtrats on the new studio. It looks and sounds killer.

I didn't know you were friends with Ace Frehley....he sure looks alot different with the make-up off. Must have been all those years of boozin'! (luxxtone you rule!)

We just finished last night and I just got home from work and am getting in bed, I am drained; mentally, physically, financially and emotionally. I came in this morning and my buddy Gregg had stayed up all night tracking guitars with CLASP and the 800 and the tracks he did blew me away. They just sound right and they sound like the sound that has been eluding us. I love tape and I love analog, end of story. There's no plugin I've heard that sounds like a Studer A800 with 456 at 15ips. It just sounds like the voice of God to my ears. So I'm gonna get some sleep and shut the ringer off and tomorrow start the journey. I am so grateful to all the people here and all the people at the studio that helped to make this possible. It's a little scary now because we are all broke with maxed out cc's but money is coming and success is here so all will be good. That's the other reason I need some sleep so I can think straight, I need to be on my A game now more then ever. So there you have it, thank you guys. Thursday we have a film crew coming to film and photograph the studio for the website and promo.

So today is our first drum day with tape. Very excited. It's been a lot of fun using the Studer. A thing I'm experiencing is that we are able to really open the amps up more then when tracking straight to digital. Meaning you read old articles with Eddie Van Halen about the early VH records talking about how he set up his Marshalls and how he would dime everything, last year I used an old Jose Marshall quite a bit and realizing how bright it was and I thought 'man this is so bright when recorded' but now going to tape we are able to open up the amps more because there's not as much top end on the recording with tape and the top end there is sounds great and so much better then the top end in a computer. So now we can open these amps up and let them breathe and man what a difference. We have 3 amazing Marshalls, '71 Super Tremolo, '74 and '76 JMP and hitting tape with those amps is like an out of body experience when you've listened to them hitting straight to hard drives for years.

We actually start our first recordings from scratch today with the tape machine, I just can't wait. Guitars and 456 is a beautiful thing.

Thanks man, no not made of money. I actually moved to LA 10 years ago and was living in my car for a long time.

p.s. Actually 10 years ago to the day I was driving from Florida to Hollywood, I left March 21th 2000 and arrived in LA on the 24th. Weird.

can't wait to check out ht estudio when I'm out in LA next. Love to meet you guys and see that Studer!!! Can't wait to hear some finished recordings w/ the new EQ's you have...the Studer...and the sound of the live room w/ drums and guitar!!!

What an awesome thread man... Thanks a lot...was awesome to watch the transformation!
 
this thread and your studio is gold. if/when i ever get the chance to record, i want to hopefully be able to afford to do it all at your place :rock:

great job James it is all killer and sounds absolutely amazing - no rock left unturned :rock:
