hit this with a couple of your favorite examples of what you consider ultimate strat tone
always good to get back to the core

The Stratocaster lets you're character come through more than any other guitar.
When you talk Stratocaster tones there are so many that it's difficult to even begin where to start. There are so many different players in so many different styles that use a Stratocaster that it's tough to begin.

I personally use them exclusively and have so many different tones going on.

Someone like EJ has 4,5 or 6 incredible to tones going on at a live show. SRV as well. Blackmore. Watch the Beck Ronnie Scott's DVD. There are so many perfect Stratocaster tones on there it's not even right.

Ok. I love Stratocasters. :D

lenny.....massive strat-ness.

forgot about this one that recently gave me a glimpse back to the era of when legends took the time to simply play their guitars and "go there"
his tone on this was killing.

Hendrix. End thread.

Of course Hendrix was incredible. But it's not even close to being the end of the story. To say so is absolutely absurd.

Sorry man. Extremely short sighted and immature statement. :aww:

yeah everyone has their own thing but there are common sounds people gravitate to with strats too.

ej and landau are two guys that i've seen live that set the bar for strat tone. and sayce was right there in his own way.
ej at coach house, landau at potato/noho, and sayce at viper room. i think you have to be in a intimate club setting to really hear it right.

understand the sentiment-he really took it from the buddy holly era into modern rock and i love his tones to this day and SO many emulate him.

axis: bold as love is one every player should own

Side question, I love traditional strat blusey tones. With pickups, is the key lower output over higher output? I have some SC3 single coils in my Anderson Classic and though I like them I want a more traditional vintage sound as found in some of these clips. I believe the SC series are more of a stacked single coil and I love the tones from SRV and Sayce. Any good recommendations? My Classic is an Alder body with maple neck. Thanks!

Pat, I love your tones. Here is one of my favs:

I too love this clip, had it in the youtube favorites for a while now :) heavenly tone!

For pure strat tones, there is absolutely no reason to stray from the Fender offerings. IMO, you have 2 choices.....Custom Shop 69's for that round, glassy tone......or Custom Shop Fat 50' for a little beefier sound with more mid push. I've tried a handful of boutiques and those 2 pairs have yet to be topped.

With stacked singles, you will not get that "squawky", rude sound that makes a strat so cool.

Probably not your typical strat tone but to me one of the best tones and performances I've ever heard.

Mentoneman, opening the class room for the masses to attend!

PLexis

Now strats.

Another SRV log to throw into the fire of tone,

Not your normal "strat" tone guy one would point to but The Edge playing Into the Heart 25 years later in front of 20,000 you can feel the history of rock through his Strat and Vox.....

Keep up the cool threads Pat!

Chad, I think Pat may have a vid going through some selections of single coils that may help.

i think henderson is a monster player-loved his holdsworth period best-
but i'm not as in tune with his tones. he was a big jeff beck head growing up and i hear a lot of honk in his tone like beck, which is not my thing.
my fave beck tone/tune is beck bogart appice "oh to love you". super hippy old school mellow but tasty.
