I have an Ibanez RG 770 that is VERY bright. I put a Rio Grande BBQ bucker in the bridge and LOVE it!

Tone Zone or Air Zone

The TZ is thick as hell.
I`ve had a couple, and it can be a little noisy, but I like how it sounds.
I`ve had it in basswood, floyded guitars.

DIMARZIO SUPER III

It's also one of the hottest pups I've ever owned/used/played/etc.

WoW!!!

That sucker is HOT! 25k, Holy Crap! That's gotta be more gainy than my WCR Ironman.

Wonder If I should try one of these... How is the BOTTOM? I favor pickups that move a lot of air.

I know Wade at MCP had a 30k in the works, maybe he release it with the new site on may 1st. all of his pickups move a ton of air. HUGE bottom end.

The DiMarzio HS-3 and HS-4 (YJM) are over 23k and are some of the lowest output pickups out there. Resistance means nothing.

The thickest, darkest bridge pickup I've used is the Duncan Invader.

I hated it...it was mud city.
Yes, I put it in, tried it for a few minutes & fucking took it out. Too dark, hot, thick for me. But some ppl love em in really bright guitars i guess & the right amp.

PM me if u wanna buy it.

What wood is your Kelly? Is this a KE2 or KE3?

In my KE2 that is alder with a neck through maple, EMG's were the cure for that guitar. Everything else sounded like crap.

SD Alt8...
An 8 mag? That's way brighter than the already bright A5...for thicker and darker, I would recommend something with an A2.
Unlikee most here...I only comment on what I played. A8 is not brighter than A5...plus the winds and wire type also dictate how a PuP sounds.

Alt 8 has rolled off highs...medium midrange...huge low mids...big bottom...and is open sounding.
SD Fullshred...PATB-3...much more bright.

I had the same problem with my king v being too bright. Its mostly due to the floyd, but I would not take the floyd out if you like it. In my warrior with a floyd I use an invader since it is darker and thicker. Its due to the pole pieces covering more ground magnetically I think.

Back to the floyd issues, with your guitar I would go with a trembucker. It will make your guitar warmer and tame those highs. In my king v I used a Blues Saraceno trembucker and it made the guitar sound clear and warm. I couldn't believe the difference it was huge sounding. I would maybe consider a duncan distortion trembucker if you want a hot pickup or the blues if you want a medium output with more clarity and warmth.

Dunno man, the Invader is only one I personally know of. It sounds pretty good in agathis with a maple top.

I think the Super III is a good bet here. It´s really chunky and not at all trebly. The Jackson PC1 is one of the thickest-sounding Floyd guitars out there, in my book... sure, it´s got a nice mahogany body but it´s the Super III that makes it distinctive.

BBQ huh?
I love that pup and have it in the bridge of my strat.
However I don't think it'd be a good fit for the kelly. Too much monky mids and crunchy sizzle to it.
Maybe ill try it anyway...

Yes, that's true(and I'm normally the first person to bring that up), but in an apples to apples, series, side by side normal-sized humbucker comparison with hot magnets, it DOES gives a tonal indication, and an idea of the number of winds.

That said, The Super 3 IS one of the hottest, thickest fuckin' pickups I've EVER used. I'd say it's as hot as an X2N, but with a HUGE low-midrange.
