Anyone here own both a VHT UL and a Suhr PT100?

Been a few years since I had a VHT UL but a few things I remember.
It really gels with a VHT 4x12
Tightest amp I have ever had.
Decent cleans.

PT100 is a lot looser(depending on feedback control setting) and has more "feel" to it,better clean channel.
isnt as finicky as the VHT with speaker/cab selection.


Was the DIEZEL cab you used front loaded?

My UL is not as tight as my Mesa Mark III Coliseum, Engl Powerball II, or Diezel Herbert and I've AB'ed my UL with those amps through the same cab. Don't get me wrong the UL is plenty tight, but a lot of people on forums make it sound like it's the tightest amp on the planet, which just isn't true (they probably think this because it's matching cab is so damn tight). Also, I use my UL through a Bogner Uberkab and sometimes also through my Bogner 2x12 and have played it through Diezel and Orange 4x12's and it's matching Pittbull cab and it sounded fantastic through all of them, but IMO sounded best through my uberkab. So, from my experience it's also not that finicky or even picky about different pickups.

I owned a VHT CLX for a while and loved it. I am a huge fan of the UL and CL series of amps. Tried a Deliverance and liked it as well. It was super tight. I can see why people call it dry but I prefer to call it clean (if that makes sense). It is easily in my top 3 favorite amps. I could be very happy with a VHT/Fryette UL/CLX.

I had a UL quite a few years ago, and I'd like to have one again, but I think I'd prefer the CLX, for the EL34's.

I also understand why people think it's dry sounding, but it's not hard to play on. I think at the time it came out, people were used to amps like SLO and MKIIC+ etc that are fluid, and in comparison it is a bit tight and dry. Compared to a lot of the newer high gain amps it's pretty fluid too. IMHO from my several years ago memory.

Second video was red channel with gain on 2 oclock edge switch engaged and graphic eq on no name 4x12 with greenback reissues

I love my UL. Probably my favorite head I've ever owned. I got it on the chopping block right now. I'll be very sad to see her go. I fully enjoy each channel.

I came to a similar conclusion regarding my old UL. Reading all the forum comments prior to getting it I really expected something different when I actually plugged in.

Mainly the 3rd channel, which is good for leads but I didn't like it for rhythm. Channel 2 was the super tight/clear tone I was expecting and I used a boost on it to get the tone I was hoping channel 3 would provide on it's own.

this is what channel 2 boosted sounded like on my old one. If my channel 3 straight in sounded closer to this I may have held on to the amp longer.

CL's are bad ass too

50 CL w/EQ+REV that I pair with a VHT FB slant 4x12 with P50E's

Of the amps I own the 50 CL is right along side the 101B as my favorite.

I like all the Fryette amps I have played on .... Fryette is the only amps I use much that can do highgain for several years.

Can the Sig X cop the UL 's high gain tones?

The preamps of both Deliverance, Sig-X Rhythm channel & Memphis Drive channel are based on the Green channel of the Pittbull's.
The Lead channel of the Sig-X is based on the Red channel of the Pittbull's.
The Clean channel of the Memphis is based on the Clean channel of the Sig-X.
The poweramps are different on all of these amps.

That is the heritage of the entire family.

Can the Sig X cop the UL 's high gain tones?

I had both at the same time a while back and where as I liked the Sig:X, I liked my U-L more. You can get 60/70 percent of a U-L tone with a Sig:X but, they're pretty different (as they should be for bring different models).

Another thing, I used to go around saying the perfect amp would be a U-L with a Mesa Mark IV's lead channel and clean channel but keeping the U-L crunch channel. I've since changed my mind on this. Haven't played it in a while and after revisiting it, I don't know what I was thinking. It basically is a perfect amp. The way I have the lead channel dialed in makes me forget all about a Mark IV's lead tone. And the VHT clean ain't too shabby either!

I never owned A Ultra lead....but owned a Rivera KR7.
Had an Ultra lead at a Ampfest I hosted a few years back. We were doing some head chopping stuff just trading licks and riffs back and forth and the amps sounded DAMN NEAR IDENTICAL. Same type of voicing and tone.
Really was weird how close they sounded. Very kick ass smashing tone.
