Wow... really enjoyed that! Great tone.. great mix and some really ass-kick'n riffs.
It was really good i'm just old and lame  :D

Great work with the amps bro.... since you have both side by side, what are the differences that you are hearing/feeling between the UL and the CLX? I have a CLX that I absolutely love but kind of have a hard-on for the UL as well. Is it worth owning both?

I love VHT/Fryette amps.

My band's latest studio recordings were tracked with my brother's CLX and UL for rhythms. It's my favorite guitar tone that we've ever gotten. Here are some tracks (I realize many here will not like the vocals):

Just picked this up this past Saturday. I'm still getting to know it but it's a keeper for sure.
Shitty phone pic.

It's heavy but a little over the top for me

The guitar tone or the vocals? I know some people don't like heavier vocal styles and that's fine, but I wanted to give examples of VHT tones. I feel like that's a pretty good example.

We were going to have some instrumental versions of our songs mastered so if we do I'll post those.

I don't know if it's worth owning both because they do sound pretty similar, but there are small differences. The UL is a little stiffer and tighter, but the CLX is a little more marshally sounding. It has great mids and a little more give than the UL. My brother owns both of those amps while I own a Deliverance 120. He got the UL first, be he actually prefers the feel of the CLX. Feature wise they are the same. I've had other friends who have had both and they all prefered the CLX to the UL. That EL34 midrange is hard to beat. It really cuts through the mix.

Had a VHT UL (sold it here). T'was a good amp for me and I did like it. But like most of the other "holy grail" tube amps that have come and gone from my man cave... it was far from irreplaceable. I've found that I just get bored with most amps over time and am looking for some new inspiration. But any such inspiration will eventually get sapped and I'll be looking for something new again. I only really MISS one amp that I've gotten rid of and that was the Lickliter Rage prototype that sold to my buddy (lurker here). At least it still lives in the same town and I can visit it now and then.

Anyone here own both a VHT UL and a Suhr PT100?

You mean like this:

;) :D

They're both great amps. The UL is a bit more modern sounding, but has a great crunch channel that covers a ton of ground. The PT100 does the modified Marshall '80s-'90s thing better than anything else I've tried. The PT100 has a better clean channel... but after that it's up to the user and personal taste.

Jim... I think you'd probably dig the PT100 better IMHO. The UL is a killer amp... but I'm not sure you'll like it as much as the PT100.

Thanks bro. I demoed my Suhr Modern through the PT100 at the storexand really loved it. Recently played the UL and to be honest not sure which i liked better. Both r sooooo nice. Just seeing what other experiences have been

I had an Ultra Lead but sold it because I couldn't get classic rock and medium gain tones. It seems best for clean and metal, and I don;t play anything close to metal. Great amp though.

Had a 50CL, cool amp but lacked headroom for metal, I thought. Then I bought a CLX, better than the 50CL and lots of options, bells/whistles, but wasn't super impressed. Not a very tight amp IMHO.

Then sjk and I traded... his UL for my CLX. The UL is what the 50CL wants to be when it grows up. I love mine, super tight and punchy.

I believe sjk felt the same way I did about the CLX, and soon replaced it with another UL, which is the one in the vids he posted, IIRC.

VHT goodness.... note the oxblood red custom covering on my UL and FB.

I owned a VHT CLX for a while and loved it. I am a huge fan of the UL and CL series of amps. Tried a Deliverance and liked it as well. It was super tight. I can see why people call it dry but I prefer to call it clean (if that makes sense). It is easily in my top 3 favorite amps. I could be very happy with a VHT/Fryette UL/CLX.

Here are a couple of clips I recorded way back in the day before my recording and playing skills improved:

Chad, clips sound great!
I'm wondering how the CLX would compare to the Fortin Cali?
I love my Cali but sometimes think it would be nice to have a few more options, I just couldn't swing keeping both. I'm just scared even with EL34's something might be amiss in the mids compared to the Fortin.

I also played hard n heavys UL.And Ive played the sig-x many times and while it has some nice tones in it, its not on the level of the UL.The UL just rips. Vht/fryette makes some nice stuff for sure.
